Was browsing the Higginsons powder site because I remembered your posting request. Seems the LEE people make a two (2) cavity 440 grain SWC bullet sized to .501.
IMHO the 440 grain would be eminently suitable, plus you could achieve better velocities with a lighter bullet. Cast & powder coat your own bullets, save money, shoot more. Bigger smiles.

I started on a hand press. Its not perfect, but it works, and it can save you a whack of money compared to factory ammo on something like a 500s&w! (I would suggest adding a hand priming tool as well, they're so much faster than using the press to do it)
I've been loading Jets 710gr. The main downsude to the real heavyweights in 500s&w is you have to drive them fairly fast to stabilize them. They are accurate if pushed. They generally can't be loaded light. And fast + heavy = serious freaking recoil.
These are some loads I used in my NEF Handi-Rifle in 500 S&W (22" barrel) with the MiHec 700gr:
OAL 2.575"
IMR4198 - 40.0 grs (full) - 1450 fps WC-735 (a Higginsons surplus ball powder a bit faster than H335) magnum primer - 50.0 grs (slightly compressed) - 1550 fps BLC-(2) magnum primer - 48.0 grs (full) - 1200 fps
The 1550 fps load was PAINFUL.
My experience has been that you can use a full case of IMR or H4198 and any powder slower, with bullets up to 700 grs. I wouldn't go any slower than powders in the BLC-(2) - Varget range. I use a magnum primer only with the ball powders.
I use IMR4198 in almost all of my 44 cal and larger cast bullet loads - from 44-40 and 45 Colt, to 45-90.
