West German P226 breaks slide rails

Makes a guy think twice about buying a SIG! No wonder Norinco was having problems with their frames.

As noted earlier, Sig have fixed this problem years ago.

I would definitely buy a Sig again. It was a nice gun to shoot prior to it breaking:p

I think I'll pick up the frame next week if its still available and try my hand at making a SIGRINCO :D

the pin doesn't even need to break, just get loose, and it causes that to happen.
any better pics of your insert? very neat idea!

It can happen on guns where the breechblock is still tight in the slide.

The breechblock is a separate problem, it was re-designed in 1996 so that it more completely fills the slide around where the pin goes through it and less stress is put on the pin. I've never heard of the pin breaking or bending on these newer breechblocks.

I saw a very weird problem with a P225 years ago where the breechblock pin bent and the breechblock moved, so that when the gun was decocked it went off. I assume the breechblock moved forward far enough that the firing pin safety was disengaged so the hammer could make it go off, I was never clear on how the hammer engaged the firing pin though. But it did happen. Decock - bang!

My First Norinco NP-34 peeled off a rail like that (I noticed it prior to complete failure though).

Marstar came through and replaced it for me. (2+ years after the original purchase!) +1 to Marstar for their warranty.

+1 to me, I now shoot a Glock....

Hello SLAVEX!
I hope this is a better image.
if any more wanted, I can do that.
Ask your highly skilled machinist friend to do the same.
From beginning to end... 2 hours .(twice milling)
A complete Norinco NP-22 is about the same price as a
single frame of the SIG ,as was qoted to me 2 years ago.

Here is a closer view: but with Norinco slide . SIG Slide "died" too. Combo works just fine !(800 RDS.)

X2 I would really like to see more pics of the process and the results if you've got em.

Buy a stainless one. No Aluminum - problem solved

We had a Sig KB today on the range....

Interesting times. The top end bulged to the point that all the internals at the rear dropped out.

Looked llike maybe a double-charge in the case. Shooter is OK, but caught the primer in the cheek, and slowed down the slide with his nose...

Pistol is probably a write-off, but he's OK.

I was a member of a gun club in England back about 15 years ago, and there was a guy there who in all honesty was a bit of a dickhead, anyway, one of the other problems with the early P226s was that some of the barrels were pretty loose. He told me he'd had his miked and it came in at just over .356", so he proudly sits there and tells me he's made his P226 more accurate by using .357" bullets in it.

He goes out on the range, and I hear: bang, bang, bang, BANG! And that was the end of his P226. I think the flaw in his logic was that his cast bullets in some cases were probably over .357" in diameter. Blew the grip panel off the right-hand side of the gun, trigger bar was bent, magazine blew out of the magazine well, the barrel bulged and jammed the slide. All things considered it could of been worse.

And then he bought a Taurus PT-92 and he also blew that up.

The same thing happened to my Dlask DAC-394. Here's a pic. I got tired of trying to track down a nork frame so I'm selling it as parts.

Very good picture. A very familiar sight to me ,
but on a SIG 226 from "yester-year"
What does the "Josef Dlask Company" have to say ??
We REALLY would like to know !!

Well when I emailed originally asking about a trade-in or cost on a new stripped frame all he said was "I'm sorry, they have been discontinued". The seller made contact and managed to get a longer response that said this was the first time he had heard about the defect and said he could buy a 80% frame for $300. I declined and now I'm selling as parts. I don't think Dlask is in the wrong because he has no idea what the gun could have been through to cause the crack but I would have appreciated a more substantial answer to my original email.

Live and learn I guess

When the German engineers at Sauer Works in Germany had some doubts
about the strength of the rail system, they were told by their Swiss SIG designers (Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft) that there was absolutely nothing to worry. (This info from a friend in Germany)
We know better now.
Did anybody learn from it? Yes, but at customers cost and very late.
Thank you for your info.
.........and now discontinued ??? Yeah, right !
