I grew up hunting Quebec, we count all the points, none of that antler scoring either. People in Quebec judge deer two ways, by the number of points/size of the rack (I shot a big/small 8 points) and the dressed weight.
I now live in Saskatchewan and most people don't give a rats azz about weight and tend to give you the "I shot a 150inch 5x5". Now I've gotten accustomed to the whole antler scoring thing and started doing it myself but a "4x4" is still an eight pointer to me.
Also, one big difference between east and west, back home, most people hang their deer outside with the hide on and I've done so for years. I would always bring my carcasses that way in to the butcher and skinning was normally in the price. Out west, totally different thing. My buddies looked at me like I had two heads when they saw me hang a deer with the hide on and the butcher shop turned me away when I brought it in because it wasn't skinned. I ended up learning how to skin a deer and figured I'd start doing my own butchering to save some cash. I've changed a lot of things WRT hunting since moving out west, its a whole different game, definitely not the same as hunting in Quebec. One thing is for sure though, as I stated above, a "4x4" will always be an eight point buck to me!
