Westrifle sent me a real nice 1949 sks.

Sure Jay, make me feel bad that I paid more than you 5 years ago, lol.

Curtton, go back to west rifle, click on Xmas Specials & scroll down to the 1949 SKS rifles for $450. I am surprised the sale still seems to be valid!

Cheers
Jay

When you said $700 , I immediately went you westrifle site and saw most of them sells for $600.

I bot a 49 from them 5 years ago for $500 and had since sold it for that amount.

I almost want to ask them what the difference is between the "Xmas specials" and the regular ones
I just think they put them on special to move them, pretty nice actually if they have any left, I bought mine from them over 4 years ago, they told me it was rough, and gave it to me for $165. Laminate stock etc but everything is there!
Just a question, does anyone know much about the early 1950 SKS with the takedown pin has the hole in it, I think they would be rare, I have seen one only?

49's are rare because they were the first year of manufacture and they have several features that are exclusive to that year. Gas Block, Take down lever, thin forestock, spring loaded firing pin, and more.

Here's mine, No frankenpinning, all numbers match. the only question mark is the stock which is an original 49, but has been sanded.

Stock has been sanded but is an original and from what I can tell was the original stock that had the erial either carved out or restamped the other cartouches are sadly scrubbed off around the crossbolt. Sadly in a fit to raise money fro something else I sold most of my collection. Only my 53 Tula shooter , a Chinese early import from the 80's and this 49 remain. I toy everyday with considering selling it to a collector that could use it, but have not been able to part with it thus far :)

As an aside, 1949 is NOT the first year of production, that was 1945 when a few thousand trials rifles were made. 1949 was the first year of SERIAL production. It's also the earliest gun anyone will find outside a museum, hence the higher price.

Absolutely Correct. I stand corrected!! :) Semantics :)
I definitely meant serialized production. Claven is absolutely correct in saying that there were a few originally produced for testing in 1945 timeframe.

As an additional note, a member on here recently sold a dewat 1945 receiver (I believe it was just the receiver) in past month or so, so there is at least ONE '45 receiver kicking around Canada.

This is curious. What did it look like?

Technically it should look like one of these:

Hello

I have 1950 SKS from Westrifle and I would think it is very early 1950 model as everything on the rifle is 1949 vintage except the bayonet (blade vs spike) and of course the 1950r stamp on the receiver. It does not have any refurb stamps on it per say but it has been awhile since I've dug it out the safe. Sorry no pic's, kids took the camera.

Regards,
