i want to use stainless pins, can you use a regular vibratory tumbler that has a solid top, or are you pretty much limited to the rotary tumbler?

Rotary water tumbler. But, you dont really need pins Hot water and soap will cleaned them well enough.

I once worked in a plant where we would use ceramic media in a wet vibratory system as one of the final deburring operations for aircraft parts. It was about 3 feet in diameter and would have pulled about 30 amps of 220 volts... Maybe more.

You can certainly use stainless pins in such a vibratory system..... The problem is that due to weight of the media, you'll need something like that which is noisy and expensive.

Using one of the home reloader vibratory systems designed for corn cob, will just not have the energy to do it well for very long, unless the batch is very small.
