Wet Weather Muzzle Protection?

I carry a number of my rifles in front of my chest with the muzzle down, I am tall and they have short barrels so no concern with dirt getting in or rain.

Can use the higher quality masking tape for painting cars if you don't like the residue from electrical tape.
 
I have always used masking tape... with a few wraps farther down the barrel for replacement... this has worked just fine for over 50 years now...

Cut down a roll of SaranWrap to pocket size. Gets used on muzzle loaders regularly. You can seal the barrel and action to keep your powder dry. Just point and shoot right through it.

I use the same thing. Masking tape doesn't leave as much gummy residue. I usually carry a few 2 inch lenghts stuck on my Case Gard Ammo Box.
 
Always just used the finger from a rubber glove. We've always got a box of them around anyways, you put them in your first aid kit, cleaning game, working on vehicles, etc. Sacrifice one glove, stretch it over the barrel, problem solved.

I use electrical tape, I usually carry a rifle barrel pointed down, one day I forgot the tape and I slipped on a muddy hill and the barrel got plugged with mud, I am better at remembering to use it now. I have thought about using balloons, gloves etc. I never seem to remember and I always have tape.

This exact thing happened to me last week. Slipped in a small steep drainage and muzzle end went straight down into the mud , it was minus 16 so it froze in the barrel right away. Luckily I was on my way back to my truck and only about 10 minutes walking left to go. But I tell you I was certain the only bear I would have seen this season was gonna pop out of the bush right then and laugh at me because my rifle was out of action Lol

Shooting through what ever you use is the only thing that makes sense.

Electrical tape for the reasons allready established is what I prefer.
