Wet Weather Sambar

just exactly what did you do to your dad to piss him off enough to hand a .470 N.E. to a 14 year old? ouch.. dam would I ever like to have that double though.

LOL! I wasn’t a stranger to that rifle. We were camped for a hunt. The party had always carried one or two big bore rifles as protection from wild elephants in those regions. At the time, my dad and Uncle had owned seven different doubles between them. They also ensured that both my brother and I properly learned the safety aspects and handling of all their long guns at a very young age. However, up to that point I had only shot the doubles at paper targets or tree stumps. The very sight of that huge stag made me forget some of the rules of shooting a heavy rifle hence the hurt to my face!:)

Sorry, i been away. So many questions!

Why 270? I'm not 100% sure, i assume because the 270 win is the start of the big game calibres with enough energy and enough weight of bullet, (130gr)
a Big mature stag is well on Par with the Elk you guys have, but only with 3 points per antler.
The sambar originated in India, thats awesome you got to hunt them in the original habbitat, they say that is why the sambar is so hard to hunt, due to escaping the indian tigers many years ago... Proberly the hardest Deer species to hunt, Sense of smell an hearing if amazing, an can slip away unheard from right under you.

Amazing animal.
