Can anyone tell me if the WFT case trimmer works with neck sized cases? I'm interested in a couple but have heard they need FL sized cases. Any help would be appreciated. I e-mailed the manufacturer but haven't heard back.

My understanding is that they like the Giraud "headspace" on the shoulder of the case. If your case shoulder was a in a different position (due to neck sizing) than a Full Length sized case they may trim shorter or longer. I'm thinking of picking one up in .308 Win to see.

My trim pro has been extremely accurate. I have often wondered why the giraudor WFT using the neck instead of the base of the brass is considered better. I have always thought that using the base would be more accurate for trimming your OAL.

I just got this set up from a fellow CGN-er and having trouble getting consistent case length. I just can't calibrate the thing!! I know they go off of the shoulders instead of OAL length, but could my cases be different lengths from shoulder to base?

Anyone with this set up have this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

I have three five gallon buckets full of once fired .223/5.56 cartridge cases fired in many different AR15 rifles. I also just got the WFT and have the same problem, the problem is slight variations in chambers, the brass cases (manufactures) and more specifically the shoulder angles from the different AR chambers. (wylde chambers)

If you full length resize with the shell holder making hard contact with the resizing die (camover) this seams to help keep the trim length more consistent. I had more problems with case length trimming when trying for .002 shoulder bump and the die not touching the shell holder. It may have something to do with brass spring back in the shoulder area and the die not making hard contact with the shell holder. Right now I'm keeping all the cases within .003 of each other and I'm not going to worry about it, my fingers are sore and numb from prepping all these cases. (and I wonder if it would be more fun to just buy Wolf ammo and not pick up the cases) :bangHead:

When I use the WFT on "MY" cases from the same lot in my rifles there is much less diffrence in case length, BUT my 40 year old Lyman trimmer gives better case length consistency because they are trimmed from the base to case mouth and not the shoulder.

Bottom line, the WFT is much faster with high volume ammo reloading for shooting in my AR15 rifles, "BUT" on my bolt action .223 I will use the Lyman trimmer and take extra steps uniforming the primer pockets, flash holes, etc. for better accuracy.

hmm.....sounds like I'll be staying with the forster drill press conversion for the time being.........It may just be the do all end all WFT after all....

I have a couple of bench mounted trimmers [RCBS and Forster]
But I still most frequently use the Lee system with the pilot unique to the cartridge case.
With the shellholder mounted to a cordless, it is the most consistent and quickest way to trim a bunch of cases.
It is also very useful if you are converting cases to another, shorter length and the trim is .025" to .080"
A few seconds, and it is all done!
