Does anybody else have or heard of the rifle or the company that made them? I picked one up a couple years ago,it has a fancy little lever ,not like the loop on a marlin or winnie.It is 37" long ,the barrel seems extra thick and heavy.It seems to be smooth bore.It is a fine little 22 and I would say its probably late 1800`s.Not looking at it I beliece the last patent date on it is from 1896.It has a 3 digit serial number.Anybody info would be great.Thanks

'Davenport Brownie Rifle
Replaced the Model 1891 rifle no longer available in 1899, case-hardened frame, black walnut stock standard long and short rim fire, single shot rifle with loading lever, automatic ejector, 22" or 24" round blue stell barrels, sold for $8 in 1900'.

Davenpost also made shotguns on similar, larger actions.
 
I found this on-line reference from 1998:-

davenport made single barrel shotguns in 10-12-16-20 gage with blue, case
hardened recievers and walnut stocks mfg0 1880-1915

they also made a special 8 gage goose gun
value or price excelent condition $300.00 poor condition $100.00
they also made falling block single shot rifles in 22--25--32 cal rimfire
all with a 24 " barrel round with a exposed hammer blued with walnut
stocks - prices similar to above.
The top of the barrels will be marked "The W.H. Davenport Firearms Co
Norwich Conn USA Patented Dec,15,1891.
Their manufacture was between 1891 and 1910.

I also found an article on them in my Frank DeHaas' book 'Single Shot Rifles', but with no indication of values etc..
