Whack Shacks??

I have built or have helped to build at least 6 "Whack Shacks".Only one was built near ground level and even that one was elevated about 3 feet....overlooking a long sloping hillside . The rest were at least 13 feet off the ground.....three were 16 feet from floor to ground .
IMO being in an elevated position enables you to see the animals much more clearly and to diferentiate one from another and to keep track of a shootable animal .
My favourite shacks are 8x8 insulated ,wood heated ,windows on all 4 sides ,sitting on 16 foot posts situated on the edge of a field or slash with shooting trails cut staight out from shack at least 200 ydsthrough the timber .
I have a pic of one in "Keepa's Album" in the Photo Gallery.
Nothing like sitting in a well built, heated shack, in your shirt sleeves, when it is -35 C.....waiting for Mr Big

One of out most productive ... " the condo" is an enclosed, roofed structure, up a full flight of 12 stairs ( not a ladder, but stairs, just like those going to a basement or cellar ) maybe 9 or 10 feet up, into the centre of a cluster of cedars. The clearing it faces and the surrounding hardwood edges have probably accounted for 25 or more deer over the past couple of decades. Stay quietly there all week, you'll get a chance at a deer or two... maybe not a trophy, but a productive spot nonetheless.
