It was more of an excercise in actually using the forward assist for once. Im not sure what he did with the mag- if it was seated correctly, I think perhaps he inserted it, closed the bolt and at the same time pulled partially down on mag while trying to eject it... dunno.

Anyways to be on safe side I took the gun home afterwards and soaked the carrier and bolt for a few hours in oil to free up the carbon- its a 10.5 so its really coated. Gotta admit though the nickel bolt and tw25 combo does seem to limit where the carbon builds up.

Those nickel or chrome bolts are nice for cleanup. Did you hammer the FA and find out the hard way that excessive force causes pain for the operator??

Wow, you can use those for failures - I thought they were there just to look cool and let you ease a round in without making any noise. (I know, it should be loaded) :D As far as the OP goes, nice rifle, people who've actually owned CQ311's are pretty unanimous in their praise for them, yours is the best looking one I've seen. My Chinese M4 remains flawless no matter what I feed it, and continues to be one of the most ammunition agnostic rifles I've fired. If it's the right calibre, it'll go 2 to 3 inches at 100 yards.

Enlighten us as to what is an excellent design.. No wait, let me guess. "The ak47 is better than the M16. You could throw it in the mud and it will still work" Am I right????

I'm in agreement, Chinese guns are crap. The OP replaced the problematic portion of an AR, the upper. If the lower runs it will continue to run regardless of who made it.

Well, Norinco's finish is usually the bottom of the barrel... that's true. But they do seem to make functional firearms and that's what it's all about: being functional. My Norinco SKS-D is a pretty solid piece and, although it's not as nicely finished as the Yugo or the Russian versions, it does get the job done at the range (and I bought it brand new for about 1/4 the cost of a Ruskie or Yugo at the time)...

The AR n this thread looks nice. If it has a match barrel, then I suppose that most "quality concerns" should be gone. Plus sometimes Norinco stuff can outlast the original "real deal" stuff, lol! Parts interchangeability with the originals is a great thing too.

My My some of us are azzholez aren't we? Must be bitter over the hill old cranky farts with nothing better to do with their time than act as such.
The fact remains, norinco is chinese and works well for the money, the AR bolt design while aging remains the most utilized system by most of the free world and those who have a choice.

no it went in nice and smooth...the round was hung up on a weird angle...Never seen a malfunction like that..buddy caused it somehow.
 
Norico provides a great firearm regardless of fit and finish, i would rather learn how to change parts and peices on a $400 m-14 than a 2000+ springfield, ar-15, 1911, etc....

this is a great place to start, planning on doing the same thing myself, good place to try changing barrels, lower parts, hell even painting, rather than messing up on a 2000+ ar....

and if its fun to shoot, shoot it, who cares what it looks like, use it... thats why my norico sks is still here, spend whole days shooting 500m gongs with iron sights... cheep to shoot and highly reliable and tough= many hours of enjoyment..

my 2c though...
 
My norinco 1911 has been one of the most reliable pistols I have owned. Feeds everything, and hasn't jammed once except for my crappy reloads. This is after a year and a half and probably about 3000 rounds. I have since replaced the grips, recoil spring, backstrap, and new trigger is on the way but none of these are for reliaility. Semi wadcutters, hollowpoints, flat point, all without issues. Go talk to ARMCO ask him about how crap Nork products are. It was my first semi auto handgun, and the only one I wouldn't sell. All others have come and gone.
