What’s the best 5 shot group you’ve shot with an sks and irons?

Dusted off the ole sks today at the range, 53 Tula in a laminate stock. Iron sights and Romanian surplus, the only mod I’ve done to the rifle is to shim the receiver at the recoil lug and the rear of the receiver. The smallest group I shot at 100y was 3.75” with irons. The next best was 4.5”.

I’ve never actually tried to shoot a group with it as I always just shot my 8” steel plate with it, so this was a fun little test. I did not let the barrel cool, I shot at a moderate rate while observing sight alignment and trigger reset/follow through. Was shooting off of front and rear bags.

I haven’t had the sks out in a few years, I forgot how fun it is to plink away with it. Did a bunch of 50y shooting with it as well. Was fun to blast some corrosive ammo down range for a few hours.

Here’s a couple pics of the targets

50y target, 2” red center & 7.5” outer ring. There’s always a flyer lol.

100y target, same dimensions on the circles.

I haven't done anything to mine either other than take off the bayonet.
It's super accurate - I can shoot minute-of-car-door at 50 yards all day.

100 meters bench rested, Barnaul. 1953 Tula SKS, no mods.

Sorry, just 4 shots there. I usually shoot 3-4 shot groups.

Nice group firebat, you got a good one there.

The next trip to the range I’m going to run some non corrosive norc and a couple brands of hunting sp through it and see if I can get the groups to shrink up a bit. If I can get it into the 2-2.5” size at 100y with irons I’ll be real happy with it.

Thanks, I wish I could shoot like that all the time. That doesn't happen too often unfortunately. Usually it's about 3 MOA.

I used my '53 to pop off the quarter pound sized tannerite targets at 100 yards, iron sights. Stock rifle except for shimming at the rear.

My spotter said my misses were very close, I never needed more than a mag of 5 rounds to get a target.

Accuracy depends a lot on the trigger group - it will be shooting tight groups if the trigger is more or less smooth.. "A Minute of Barn Door" is a famous meme, but I saw several people complaining about their SKS-es without even having sighted them in first. Same applies to Barnaul or other cheap ammo - it can do better than average shooter most of the time.
