What’s your Best rifle with Iron sights and scope ?

Hey gunnutz

What’s your best pick for a rifle with iron sights and a scope mounted. Sights must be useable!!!
I add that last part because I had a savage hog hunter with “See through mounts”
You couldn’t actually use the irons as the mounts got in the way

I’m looking for a short 18-20” barreled rifle in any action. In the $1000 price range
I hunt in thick brush and in a small blind. Has to be short !
Preferably 308

Do you want a setup where you can use both the scope and irons at the same time? Are you fine with irons and a removable scope? I'm using a CZ 557 Range with a scope mounted in Leupold QRW rings. It works for me but I have to remove the scope to use the irons.

I’d love to be able to have both capabilities at the same time
Reason being is I live pretty far up in northern Alberta and on our coldest days optics freeze up instantly
don’t want to chance that when I am stalking the big buck someday

Below is what I’m currently using… Couldn’t resist posting a picture she’s a beauty (Remington model seven - 308).

There use to be tip off rings available, not sure if they are still an option. Basically you mount your scope normally in normal height rings, then the entire scope would be able to tip to the left so you could use irons.
Other options kind of suck, see through rings mount too high, QD rings I wouldn't rely on 100% except to take the scope off to use irons.
Why not just get a low variable scope, like a 1x-6x?

I used to have a lever-action Marlin 444S that I eventually put a scope on using Weaver see-through mounts when I started having trouble seeing the front brass bead in first/last shooting light with these old eyes. I liked the combo but actually didn't use it much after that.

I have an old no1 mk4 that I shortened the barrel to 18.75" and made a removable scope mount. Takes about 45 seconds to remove scope. I bedded the mount so it returns to poa every time. She's an ugly beast but she's an awsome bush rifle. I also use a 336 and 1895 with peeps or a mauser in 308 with 20" barrel and 2-7 bushnell. I've never had luck with rifles that have the scope mounted high enough to use sights as well. My aeg air soft has a scope and to ups mounted at 45 degree angle.... Great for cqb but not for hunting;-) I am also up in northern alberta. One thing I have found to be a big help with freezing up scopes is the scope shield. All my guns wear one and they work amazingly well.

^^^^^THESE!!^^^^^ .30-06Sprg.

At the moment, I have the M77 MKII RSI's in .257 Roberts, 7X57 and .358 Win... they pretty much cover the strolling rifles for deer and bear. In the past, I have also had them in .22-250, .243, .250-3000, 6.5X55, .270, .308 and .30-06.

My Savage Hog Hunter has a heavier barrel and love the adjustable metal sights.

I built this before all the scout rifles started coming out. Was 469.00 when the dollar was close to par, accustock was 50.00, DBM and mag were 70.00, other parts I had.

Needed iron sights, heavier barrel, threaded barrel, poly stock.

Now it is only .223 but I mostly shoot varmints and paper, but lots out there in .308 or 7.62x39 now. I use QD scopemounts so I can switch to backup irons if needed, also upgraded to a detachable magazine as opposed to the factory blind mag.

The 20" barrel is nice to handle. It's ugly but it shoots great with it's accutrigger, heavier barrel, I can keep up with more expensive rifles.

75 grain Hornadys 1 in 9 twist at 119 yards off bipod in some wind with a dime.

Use this scope/muzzle cover when in and out of my truck.

Yup they keep the moisture in check on the glass and snap off quickly when needed. Have had zero fog or freezing issues since using them
