What’s your Best rifle with Iron sights and scope ?

There is zero chance I would ever put see thru mounts on a rifle.all my iron sighted rifles have detachable rings which I've yet to need anyway. See thru's are an ugly way of trying to have your cake and eat it too.

I really could care less what you or anyone else think of their appearance, I've used them on the old 88 for longer than most here have been alive without issue. The fact that I can use a receiver sight under it is perfect for me, as my old eyes can see that much better than the standard notch and post, and that sight is far more accurate.

I've also used the old Lyman tip off mount. It was acceptable for close range shooting, but I found at longer ranges it would open the group size. It also blocked the back sight with it's thick base, making the whole thing a mute point. Also heavy and blocky.

Heavier kicking rifles will always wear solidly mounted rings.

Hey gunnutz

What’s your best pick for a rifle with iron sights and a scope mounted. Sights must be useable!!!
I add that last part because I had a savage hog hunter with “See through mounts”
You couldn’t actually use the irons as the mounts got in the way

I’m looking for a short 18-20” barreled rifle in any action. In the $1000 price range
I hunt in thick brush and in a small blind. Has to be short !
Preferably 308

If you're willing to look at rifles UNDER .308 in power ...

You can set up an older Winchester 94 with a sidemount scope that lets you also use irons. I personally have little enjoyment in this setup, but you can do so.

I personally have a Savage 340 with sidemount scope (Sun Optics mount, centred over bore) and this setup is perfect for also using irons.

Load up some LeverEvolution ammo and you've still got plenty of range.

Hey, to each his own.I likewise could care less what you or anyone else thinks of see thru's. It's not just the ugly factor for me. I've seen someone sustain a very bad cut over his eye from trying to use the irons on a Marlin 336 with see thru's. It was during a range trip and he ended up leaving to get stitched up.
