there is a few different 10/22 to buy out there.. did you guys just start with a basic and start adding or did you put it together from ordered part?? i would love a nice 22 to shot lots instead of my 270 ..

I would just get a basic one. Then, when you have money to start upgrading, get a couple mags and a nice barrel.

Then upgrade the stock system.

My advice is to think about what you'll replace first, then build around that...;). In other words, if you're not switching your stock immediately and are an adult male (upper-chest size-wise), don't get the shortest model, etc...

In my opinion the standard looks better than the deluxe. Buy whatever you get the best deal on. Don't wast your money on parts you will be replacing anyway.

Start with basic gun and build to this:)

where is the best place to buy barrels and stocks and other great goodies?

E & E forum will be a good bet...($30 for a bedded Hogue stock - WTF? ;)). I'd also look at some of the suppliers posting in this forum and atop the page.

I think Rimfiresports still sells stocks into Canada, but not barrels.

What? Where? Who? IF I'd seen it I'd be all over that.

Buy a new 10/22, sell stock/barrel on EE. Replace the internal parts that you want, sell spares on EE. Even if you don't have the rifle yet, check EE often for stock/parts that you want for future use.
WTB ads are king, don't want for a good deal, create one.

what kinda of barrels are on the target rugers ?? are they tac drivers from the factory or do i spend a few more bucks get a better one ..

Ruger barrels have never really been the issue for me, even the pencil profile barel could be a tack driver....its always been the factory 8-13lbs trigger and the barrel band that were the bigest culprits, then bedding and thin factory scope rail.

From memory, the 1022T has a 5lb trigger pull (still too heavy) and standard (not Benz) chamber.

The barrel on my buddies 10/22T doesn't appear to be the limiting factor. I'd say a decent trigger and bedding job are what holds them back.
That said, try to find a used one on the EE with a decent barrel already and you'll save some cash for sure.
Cheers,
Grant

Rugers

Some fellows will tell you that they have a tack driving 10/22, and usually these fellows have upgraded a number of part to do so.
If tack driving is your number focus in a 22 rifle, you'd be better served buying a CZ bolt action rifle. IMHO. FS

With all due respect to FS (who I like reading), a bolt-action tack-driver is hardly comparable to an accurate semi-auto... :) ... apples and oranges?

Patience and the E & E are your friend(s)...you can find some surprisingly incredible deals there, even these days...just depends how long you are willing to wait....
