What 12G O/U Shotgun to buy?

Does it have to be a 12 ga? A 20 ga FAIR Rizzini is a nice gun for the money you want to spend.

For Clay Games yes 12 Bore.
With the OP's budget of $4000 he could look for a used Perazzi. Just make sure it fits... If your not sure of proper Gun fit take someone along that is.
One Gun for all Clay games is a tough one.

If you like the A400 extreme why not buy an A400 excel target gun . you will not find any fixed breech gun that will have the soft recoil of a gas operated auto loader .

beretta boy
been googling that Beretta Prevail KO. Do you know what the Canadian price for that would be. That is peaking my interest!

Not off-hand, but Clay at site sponsor Prophet River should be able to help, give him a call.
Otherwise, try Stoeger Canada ... (Beretta Canada Importers) they have an e-mail service on their "contact us" drop down box on their web site.
There aren't a lot of them out there, the 682's, 692's DT-10's and DT-11's are all more popular from the Beretta line.
The Browning 625 and 725 Sporters I believe are the most popular from that line.

I would reiterate the recommendations for what you have specified as to "what you are looking for" , i.e., an "all-sports" O/U.
It shoud be something in the 8 lb. plus range with either 30" or 32" barrels. Most decent target O/U's come with at least a decent quality
recoil pad. Both Beretta & Browning's are good. By all means try to arrange to shoot somebody'slong-barelled Beretta or Browning Sporters at one
of your local Gun Club's. I'm sure you could likely arrange to meet with one of the GGN-ers from you vicinity for a "try", as most target shooter's
are a very accommodatin bunch. What's a 200 km drive in relation to a $3000 to $ 4000 expenditure ? Get hold of some 2-3/4 dram target loads
to try ... if they're comfortable, you should have no problem. I usually shoot 1 oz. target reloads at 1200 fps and find a couple hundred a day to be
comfortable ... no bruising, sore spots or noticeable fatigue.

I have been shooting a Beretta DT-10 32" Sporter since 2000 and find no difficulty with it shooting any of the games, although at Skeet, I had made a
relatively modest outfield shift to my "hold points" on 2H, 5L, 6L and 8L a few years previously while shooting a 32" Browning 425 Sporter. Having run
umpteen straights with this gun at Skeet, I don't believe the longer barrels are a significant handicap, especially to a recreational shooter. If I were competing,
I would more than likely be looking at a 30" gun with a regular 12 ga, barrel and a carrier barrel & sub-gauge tubes. I still believe the Sporter to be the better
choice for an" all-round" gun than either a dedicated Skeet or Trap gun.

And oh yeah, the Blaser F3, while a pretty nice piece, is well beyond your stated budget ... they are currently about 7k CDN. Beretta DT-11's, Kreighoffs, Kolars and
Perazzis are a few k. more than that.

I don't know how much shooting you have done previously, but I sense, not a ton of it. A good experiance coach can often provide a number of suggestions as to proper
stance, gun mounting and gun fit to alleviate your sensitivity to recoil. I have coached a number of ladies that are of smallish stature and less weight than the average guy
who have no problem with a a hundred or more rounds a day feom their 12 ga, O/U's. Technique, gun weight and gun fit are all key.

Best wishes on your quest .... ;)

Thanks all for this. After looking into this 828U more and more its starting to scare me. I took at look at some browning O/U and they did not seem to fit right. I'm going to go tomorrow to check out some beretta's. I think a silver pigeon is one I want to look at.

The Silver Pigeon I Sporter is a good buy and should do all you want it to.

I was quite impressed with a 692 Sporter a buddy picked up recently. He likes it more than boyh his 682 E and 682 Ltd.

Try the Beretta 692 and Browning 725... one or the other will fit you and feel like the right gun, buy that one. "Beretta/Browning" are like "Pepsi/Coke" or "Cat/Dog"... you will generally come down on one side or the other... for what it's worth, I'm "Browning/Coke/Dog." My son is "Beretta/Pepsi/Dog"...

Kind of what I figured...shooting a field gun with a "heavy load". As suggested, find a target gun, stick to the lighter loads and you'll be fine. One gun I recommend you look at is the Browning Citori Crossover. It's priced very well, built to last a lifetime and the cash saved, compared to buying a Benelli or Beretta, will be better spent on ammo and clays! Shooting makes a better shooter than a high priced gun!

X2, for what you are asking for in a clays gun the crossover is probably best suited to your needs. I have found after 33 years of skeet and trap shooting that dedicated trap guns do not cross over well to skeet and vice versa.

I am not going to recommend a gun since the boys took care of that and you have some work to do
Am going to say I remember the days when I had 4000 budget to buy one and should have bought a ton more when I did
I thought after we paid the house off those days would return until the girls hit university and I wish I was back in those days
Almost crapped yesterday when one needed a new phone and I peeled off over 900 bills for some apple thing
Anyhow take your time and try as many as you can since it is a hard choice today and keep buying :)
Cheers
