what 1911-magazines to get?

Did have some issues with USGI 7 rd magazines for my Colt 70 Series pistol.

First I got a magazine that didn't fit into my 1911 (or any other 1911 for that matter), because it was too wide.
And now I had a magazine (also USGI, bought brand new about a year ago) crap out on me on a course.

After a day of shooting (only put around 100 rds through it that day, since I was the assistant instructor) during cleaning and function check I noticed that the slide would lock open after the last round.

Because it's been a long day and I was tired and there were other things to worry about I marked the magazine for further inspection.

Took it to the range this week and it really wouldn't work anymore. When I insert the full magazine, the pistol doesn't chamber a round, but the first round holds the slide open. Kind of weird.

Anyway, what kind of 1911-magazines work reliably? I have a Mec-Gar-magazine, that seems to work just fine.
Other options?

The Dlask mags are ACTs...they run ok but they're a bit fragile. Typically they crack at the rear where the feed lip meets the tube. I have some that I use casually.

Wilson ETMs in black are on sale at Brownells right now for $90/3pack. They're usually over a hundred, so if you want them, they're currently exportable and usually aren't.

I guess they're backordered at the moment...sorry, that's partly my fault. But you might get to raincheck the price.

Tripp Research. Under $40 a piece when ordered directly from the manufacturer, not counting shipping. They also pop up on the EE from time time. I run Tripps exclusively in my STI and Sig 1911, very reliable.

thanks for the advice so far.

@misanthropist: fragile is a bad thing. They wouldn't live very long with me then. But thanks anyway.

@subneural: the EE doesn't really help me, I live in Switzerland ;)

All I run are 7rd mags. I've tried mecgar, usgi, wolff, ... Any of them can be had for around $20. They all function 100%, the usgi seems to be made the cheapest, the Wolff wasn't much more than the usgi and seems like the same thing as a mecgar.

Surprised no one has mentioned kimber pro tacs ... I thought they were up there with Wilson and chip?
