What 1911?

I like them a little more GI than those but just as accurate, but it was all I could do to stretch to the Remington 1911 R1 at $600 after the $100 rebate (I received already).

The "memory bump" bugs me for one and I don't need the forward serrations just for starters, but if they SHOOT I would get one if I could afford it some day.

Delta, BC, hmm...

One thing I didn't see on their website was where the actual parts are from.

some of the nicest 1911's I've handled have come from the hands of Joseph Dlask in delta , bc
they are a full service firearms machining/gunsmithing shop, manual , cnc, true craftsman.
and the man knows his 1911's
a lot of their accessory parts are machined in house
it has been almost 20 years since I bought my first 1911 top end from Joe and won't be my last hopefully

I don't have personal experience but marvel 22 conversions are supposed to be really good. .45 might be a lot to deal with as a first pistol. I wanted a CZ sp01 shadow as a first pistol with ideas about shooting IPSC. The gun club guys set me straight and now I'm shooting bullseye with .22 pistols. I have a lot to learn with the .22 before I bother with anything else. Offhand shooting a pistol at 25 yards is an eye opener compared to rifle shooting ;)

I would suggest aim high for the first time and go down the road i.e. Wilson, Ed Brown, Les Baer, Springfield, STI, Colt otherwise you will have lots of sleepless nights thinking about your 1911 :)

In the order of my preference;
1. Springfield Professional
2. Wilson Classic
3. Les Baer Premier II Custom (Stainless)
4. Les Baer Thunder Ranch (Blue)
5. Springfield Trophy Match
6. STI Lawman 5.0
7. Colt Gold Cup
8. Colt Series 70

I have my Glock while waiting so I can sleep well.

What about Jo Dlask? Screaming deal, for a hand fitted, hand assembled Canadian 1911.

I wonder how much customization is available from dlask, at least without rapidly breaking the budget.

I envision something like a Colt Gold Cup - no forward serrations, no high rise grip safety, with a bomar type sight.

I could see going for that rather than an actual Colt, if I save up my pennies....err...nickels...
