looking at a .22 semi auto, but I'm not a big fan of the round barrel style.
what do you nutz recommend? (im looking at the s&w .22a)
a pic would be nice.

thanks limit.

I've shot the local range's Ruger Mk II and a S&W 22A that had a really BAD red dot sight mounted in it.

Of the two I think the Ruger was a better gun in that it has a lot less kick. But I preffered the S&W BECAUSE it has a bit more kick. For me I think it would be better to work on my chops for the 9mm in IPSC thanks to that tiny bit more kick.

Keep in mind when I say "kick" this is certainly all relative. It IS a .22 after all and I'm already getting used to the 9mm.

If all your goals for shooting are putting bullets onto the target the most accurately with the least fuss then I think the Ruger is a bit better but if you want a bit more of the "shooting sensation" then I'd say the S&W is nicer. Both are around the same price so that's not really an issue. Is one more accurate than the other? I don't think so. Both shot as well as I could point.

A search on these two in the Rimfire section would also turn up a lot more info.

I had an opportunity to shoot a 22-A. It was perhaps the least-impressive .22 I've ever shot. It felt cheap. The trigger was poor. The mag release is peculiar.

Before buying a 22-A, and depending upon the particular sort of shooting in which you are interested, I suggest looking at a: Ruger MKll; High Standard; Kimber Rimfire Target; Beretta 87BB; Sig Mosquito; Sig CLASSIC 22; Tanfoglio Force 22; CZ Kadet; or a .22LR conversion kit (of your choice) along with the corresponding centrefire pistol (of your choice).

But...if you've held and shot the 22-A...well, it's your money.

I also don't really care for a round barrel, but a 5 1/2" bull barrel SS Ruger Mk II is still one of my favorites for plinking, and we have a lot to chose from.....

For more target oriented shooting, High Standard Victor, S&W 41, Beretta 89, and a S&W 19 revolver with a 6" full lug barrel.

Don't disregard used guns, a used Colt Woodsman is an excellent .22 pistol, if you can find one.

Almost all my guns are purchased used.

for myself i think that a browning buckmark is one of the best buys you can make in .22lr semi auto

i got it as my second handgun because i found that i liked to shoot alot so i needed something cheap to practice
and up to this day i still think it's the best deal i got (300$ for an almost new stainless model)
i've shot up to 3,5 bricks before cleaning it with very little problems
so far it's been incredibly reliable

My very first pistol was a used MCM Margolin... The look is an acquired taste, but it shoots great and the trigger darn good...

With a set of target grip, it now acts as my back up bulleye gun

You should be able to find a new one for about $275

The Buckmark is also on my short list for a .22 practice gun. And seeing that lovely aftermarket barrel is really pushing me that way.

Alex, one issue I have with bare metal or silver guns or in your case the flutes. Do you ever notice any glare from the silver areas when aiming?

second the buckmark, shot the older ruger mkII, have a ruger single six, the stock buckmark is by far my favorite rimfire, and most comfortable feeling handgun in my collection. if i had the option i would take the buckmark hunting over the 10/22!

Walther p22 is tiny. Only seemed to shoot well with copper plated anything. NO lead tips. Gums up terribly. Feels like a toy but loads of fun.
