What 30-06 ammo do you recommend for Deer?

Please tell us your expereinces using the bullets that you have named..
I have tried a few other bullets over the years. Between me and my friends who reload we've probably tried most of them.....I like Nosler ballistic tips, very accurate, Sierra Game King are very accurate, shot 2 mule deer with barnes X spitzer at about 200 yds and they both went down like a bag of hammers but definitely not as accurate as other bullets and had a fouling problem and velocity wasn't as good as copper clad lead core bullets. Partitions are good too but tend to lose a lot of weight up close it seems. I'm not really knocking these bullets, I'm just saying that Remington Corelokt have been a great bullet over the years and still are and I've never had one let me down...... and all for under 20.00 a box !.....My humble opinion.

I've always liked the 180 gr Partition in the 30 caliber and the '06 is not exception.

For just any deer hunting where you're not likely to run into bears I'd say to go with any factory load from 150 to 180 gr. See what your rifle likes.

If you're planning on handloading then I'd say to go with the 180 Partition.

I'd like to be able to shoot a few with Remington's "Managed Recoil", 125 gr.
Pointed Soft Point loads. No first hand experience (yet) but seems just the thing for deer.

I've been using the 165 gr Hornady Interbonds, they are awesome. I got my first mature bull elk with it this fall, it was bout a 125 yrd shot (give or take a few yrds, I was pacing out the shot an it was an exciting experience so I may have ran the last few steps..lol). I brought down a nice big doe not too long ago, the shot was approx 275 yrds, I had a good rest on some shooting sticks an the deer did not go anywhere, thru the ribs behind the leg, no damage to the meat on the quarters or back. Haven't taken a moose with this ammo yet, but after seeing what they do to elk I think it should be more than ample, just got to place the shot in the right place. It's also got a nice price.

p.s. I use the new fusion in 170 gr in my 30-30, its cheap an accurate. my buddy borrowed the gun an shot a nice lil buck, that critter did not go more than 10 steps before piling up, seems to do the trick.

It's this simple. Look at your dealers shelf and see what you think you might want to try, any factory 150 or larger will kill any deer alive(barring match stuff) pick up a box of load A, a box of Load B, a box of load C, and a box of load D. Take yourself, your rifle and your shooting box to the range and see what load shoots most consistantly in your rifle. Asking buddy what works in his rifle is a potential for disaster, every rilfe has likes and dislikes just like human bings, so a blanket choice is fool hardy, only test driving and evaluating accuracy potential is the only answer.
I personally would stay away from the Ballistic Tip offerings, they kill deer, but your eyes will probably bug out of your head when you skin the deer out. Accubonds and Interbonds although looking similar are definatly not the same as Ballistic Tips or SST's.
That being said, it appears the good starting choices are the Federal Fusion offerings, and good old Remington Core Loct stuff.
Good luck

I'm with HAL1955, the Rem 150 gr Corelokt is a very good bullet, and has shoot well in the three '06 I've tried it in. My buddies Browning A-Bolt with the BOSS refused to shoot them well, though. It is a good load for open country. Another favorite was the Winchester 180 gr PP, but due to its round nose, it is more of a close country round. It did work extremely well on two mule deer I shot years ago, at ranges of about 150 and 200 yards.

As a side note I shot a largish mule deer this year with a 130 gr Speer BTSP out of my 270. It took three shots and I found one bullet that had a complete core/jacket separation (never found the other two) The deer was dead, but I can't say I've ever had good luck with BTSP's, and won't hunt with them again.

If all else fails, try Nosler Partitions, either factory or handloads and you won't go far wrong.
