Shooting left handed and prefering walnut doesn't leave a whole hell of alot of options so I will have to say the one that I bought. The Remington 700 BDL.

The most expensive best fitting one I could find and consider weight. Sako if you can handle the price, Tikkas are so slick, and yeah I hate plastic. Wood or laminated all the way. Whatever I chose, I'd shoot the dickens out of it all summer.

I have a Wincjhester M70 ranger. Cheap stock. With a target scope is shoots around 1". All I did to it was bed the action and float the barrel. It cost $165 at the local Crappy Tire, about 10 years ago.

But I would sugget a Savage. Too may subltle advanatage sto list here, but they are cheap, relaibel and accurate. Also dead easy to change barrels and even calibers with different bolt heads, if you had to change to a 223 or a Magnum.

For pride of ownership (if you only own one rifle) I would buy a M70. For a practical economocal rifle, buy a Savage.

X2.

However, I dropped mine in a McMillan stock and have a Burris 3-9x40mm Ballistic Plex to top it off. I have Weaver style quick release rings and bases so I can pull the scope off and use the iron sights if necessary.

I actually would have bought a LH Win 70 Classic at the time, but they were all gone due to being discontinued. I like controlled round feeding too, but the Remingtons are strong and safe actions.

The good thing about the Remington SPS (BDL style) is that you can find lots of after market goodies for it down the road when you want to tinker with it. Leave it as is or soop it up. Good rifle either way.

Here's my SPS, restocked with a Bansner.

I just recently bought the Savage 116 with the accu-trigger. I couldn't be happier! I've owned several rifles over the years including ones costing me thousands and for $600 bucks the Savage is as good as any of them. It is extremely accurate, lightweight and with Savage's new recoil pad it is extremely pleasent to shoot.
Best Regards!
