Well if a person wanted literally one gun to do it all in North America, Europe, Africa and Australlia as well as other places I'd say the .300 Winchester would have most of your bases covered. It's powerful enough for large animals, but still capable of shooting smaller critters too. I've had a couple and they've been very accurate as well. Now most hunters don't hunt elk or moose. Their more inclined into going out once or twice a year with a deer tag. For that, the .300 Savage is all a guy really needs. Of course, it will probably work just fine on elk and moose too. Pick one, and you won't go wrong.

Other than the Savage there is no animal in the world that could tell the difference between any of the cartridges on your list. If the shots were all inside 200 yards even the Savage would be included.

I am partial to the WSM but that is because mine is in a very neat little package that is easy to pack around.

If the .300 win mag cant kill it......well you need a bigger caliber anyhow. The next logical step up would be a .33 or .35 cal as the next minimum caliber for an animal the .300 cant put down.

They're all the best depending on what you need. If you need a 200gr bullet to have the following MV that will guide your choice:

2100 fps - 300 Savage
2850 fps - 300 WSM
2900 fps - 300 WM
2950 fps - 300 Wby
3050 fps - 300 RUM

.300 Savage, cause its the closest one to a .308 Win.:)

If I was to build a custom .300 it would be the .308 Norma...

The .300 Win Mag can "put down" anything on the planet. It's up to the shooter to do his part, though. ;)

I voted .300 Win Mag....

The guy what posts the poll calls the tune, BUT this would have made more sense if you had restricted it to 300 Magnums. The .300 Savage is less powerful than the .30-06 or .308 and the .300 Norma Mag is not included. I voted for the .300 Win Mag because it is "middle of the road" and ammo is more common. I don't need the recoil of the Ultra-Mag and the short magnums which sacrifice magazine capacity to gain a short action make no sense to me. Having said that, this is almost as silly as the never-ending .308 vs. 30-06 debate. Maybe I shouldn't even have a vote, because my "magnum" is a 30-06.

Ive always shot the .270 and 270 wsm because I strickly hunt whitetail and muledeer but bought a 300 wsm this summer cause I have permission on some land that holds a large herd of elk.
So with that said I pick the 300 wsm but any 30 cal would probably work for me but this was the first I found in a CRF Winchester.
