Hey all I'm looking at Rugers sr1911 and really like it; however I'm not completely sold.My ruger p345 should be here tomorrow but I'm thinking of letting my wife have that and order something else for myself. We are just getting into handguns and the local shops don't have anything on display so handling different models is out of the question.

So what .45 and why, also where can I find the best deal

Thank you very much

Mike

Just got back from the range. I continue to be impressed with the Norc 1911 "Sport Model" that I got from Canada Ammo. Not a single problem yet with the gun or the crate of Norc ammo that came with it and that I am working my way through much too fast.

I shoot this gun better than my g21 gen 4; also bought from Canada Ammo. Something about it just works and I get nice tight groups. YMMV.

My votes are SR1911, STI Spartan IV or V if you want a 1911 platform or a S&W M&P45 otherwise.

Other than 1911s, my fave .45 pistols are the M&P, SIG P220, and HK USP/HK45. The HKs will be more expensive but I do see P220s on the EE for around $800 from time to time.

+1. 1911 or a Sig p220 (bought mine for $839). The big polymer ones are the M&P and Glock. 1911 platform and P220 are my faves.

There are many 1911's that would fit the bill. I recently acquired a Remmy R1 that seems to be a very nice, smooth shooter. Outside of 1911's, I would have to say that the M&P.45 looks like a winner and the CZ97 has a cult following.

1911 an STI Spartan V or IV.
CZ 97
SIG P220
Tangfolio Combat

That one is only $530, kind of a CZ97 copy... also available in 10mm. Good deal if it's a good pistol (don't know much about it). I like my Sig 220 and 1911 way more than I did my CZ97b (sold it). STI and Ruger have the best bang/buck 1911's right now.

How many bells, gongs & whistles do you need or want? Do you like GI looks in a 1911 or sporty civilian?

I just bought my 2nd R1, this one in stainless, for $720 + tax, S&H. Epps has the blued model for $689. It has all the mods I need or want - straight main spring housing, long tang, dimpled/lowered ejection port, bevelled mag well, hi-viz sights that would allow the one-handed jam clearing drill (if I ever needed it).

So far it has been a joy. I've replaced the firing pin spring with a heavier one to prevent the firing pin from being captured by the Series '80 plunger. I may do so oin the SS model, when it arrives, and an ambi-safety is a possibility.
