I would be comfortable with any of those listed, excepting perhaps the Grendel.

6.5x55 has cheap brass available
6.5-284 has really good brass widely available
.260 or Creedmore if I had to use factory ammo.
Would only consider the magnums/26 nosler with a 26"+ tube.

minimum? 6.5 Grendel

I've seen the 260 Remington at work on a nice bull, it didn't move a step after taking a 127gr LRX

I'll hunt moose this fall with 6.5 PRC 140gr Accubond or 160gr Woodleigh PP

6.5X55 with 160 RN, but I have a great load for the same rifle with the 129 Interbond and am currently working up a load with the ELD-X... just not thrilled loading this overlength bullet... in the 6.5 Creedmoor it eats up ALOT of case capacity... but the 6.5X55 is better with it.

My choice in the day was the Swede with 160's & it's still a favorite combo in my books for hefty critters inside 100 yds. I currently have a CZ in 6.5 Grendel that won't be going moosin', but will nice on the lighter critters. I'm gonna get a Swede again when I find the right one fer me.;)

My choice isn't listed. I would use my 6.5 SHERMAN with either a 150 gr or 160 gr Matrix. I did vote 6.5X47 because I have two of them. Would probably use a 130 gr AccuBond.

Oh brother.

6.5x284 is unbeatable in a long action. Montana rifle company has such caliber in a "shorter" magazine, which turned me off. I loaded mine close to the longest allowable in a savage 111 long range hunter, unsurprisingly accurate

My 6.5x55 Ruger #1 loves those 160 Hornady RN's so its currently my #2 favorite rifle, after my .358 Frontier.

chuck...hoyt, please don't start a pissing contest. I'll ask your posts to be removed if you carry on.

that said, you may wish to take hoyt's comment in context chuck. he meant he didn't like that bullet/cartridge combination because it took up space in the Creedmoor and impaired it's performance it did in the Swede, due to it's longer length and inherent case capacity.

that aside, carry on! :)
