What 870s might these have been?

Here is a shot in the dark. (no pun intended)

About 10 years ago when I was getting back into shooting (and totally in a rimfire frame of mind) a gun shop I frequented got in a small pile of retired 870 police pumps that they literally had in a plastic barrel behind the counter. If memory serves, they were getting rid of the for around $200 each, but I could be wrong about that. Wood hardware, what looked like a parkerized finish, and definitely well-used. I have very few regrets in life, but NOT buying one of these is near the top of the list. Anyone have any ideas, or photos that might jog my memory? Might like to add one of these to my collection in the not-so-distant future.

Ontario Sporting Supplies had very-good-condition police-surplus 870 Police models back in June of 2000. They were older models, so the receivers were marked Wingmaster (rather than Police). At least one was also marked "POLICE ACTON VALE". (I presume this to mean Actonvale, PQ)

The cost was $300. IIRC.

That's where I saw them. Did you buy one? Keen to see a photo...see if they're as desirable as I remember.

Shame about what closed that store too.
 
This thread has a pic of the way they looked (except for the fact that they were parkerized).

One of the peculiarities of that older model is the fact that the serial number - due to it's odd location - is hidden by any sidesaddle. The barrel and ejector were originally made for 2 3/4" shells only - and not 3" magnum shells. The barrel is lighter in weight than the current 870P. Notice the low bead. The triggerguard was polished. The shell lifter did not have the Flexi-Tab cut. The parkerizing is virtually the same as current 870P (parkerized) finishes.

So I wasn't imagining that finish being parkerized? If so, that's reassuring...the mind hasn't failed me too bad! lol

I've been trying to buy a 12.5" tube-fed grizzly for so long that I haven't been paying much attention to the alternatives. Guess I should, as I have no idea how often these come up for sale in the EE. (assuming they do)
