Hi all been doing some research on 9mm auto's and I have it narrowed down to a CZ75b or glock 17. I will use it for recreational target practice and maybe IPSC down the road? Both are similar priced and rated - which would you buy and why? Thanks fellows...

Choose the one that fits your hand better. They will both last you a lifetime and are accurate enough for competition shooting.

IIRC they are both in the same price range.

Personnally I would choose the steel gun. I prefer the fell of metalthan polymer, but it's a personnal preference.

The cz will be more accurate gives you better feedback and is a better rated gun around the world. Glocks have a cult following in North America, are good guns, very good guns, but the CZ is really underpriced for what you are getting, More accurate too.

NEVER buy based on articles ratings blah, blah, blah. I recommend you rent or try these PLUS other models. What fits you best and is most comfartable is more important that what some gun rag prints about it. When you narrow it down then look for real-world experiences from owners of the selected models (just about every firearm has it's own on-line forum now a days) Find out the pros & cons the owners may have and then decide if it is for you.

I know many a pistol owner who drank the Glock kool-aid only to find out it was a lot more sour than all the hype portrayed . I'm sure that's tru of a lot of pistols. Don't count out any REPUTABLE manufacturer.

Regards,

I have a CZ75B, and like it very much. I think eventually I will have some work done to smooth out the trigger (I'm spoiled, as I also shoot a S&W 41).

I shot a Glock 17 once, and liked it, but it's hard to form a really good opinion just shooting 10 rounds through someone else's gun.

If you have more money, you may want to consider a CZ SP01 Shadow.

I'd recommend a CZ. If you reload it'll be cheaper to shoot lead bullets over jacketed. Most Glocks I know prefer more expensive jacketed ammo.

I bought an XD9 over a Glock due to how it fits in my hands. I am now looking at a CZ 85 as a back up due to the ambidextrous controls and adjustable sights.
A CZ 75b is a good choice, but as most have mentioned, you need to hold it and shoot it to see what YOU are comfortable with.

Good luck, I think you will find what you are looking for, test drive first if you can.

Thanks for the fast responses guys - I am heading to the local gunshop tonight to atleast handle each type. I'm a big guy with big hands so that has never been an issue.....

Kinda leaning towards CZ

I own both a CZ75-B and a Glock 17 both are great guns but what made me like the CZ more is i like a steel gun more then a tupperware gun

Try both, buy which ever feels better and shoots better for you.

NAA.

Needless to say CZ is the way to go if you are looking for some competition. Glock is just a good reliable gun and is not as accurate than CZ, I have both and I like them all.

Glock 34

Try a GLOCK 34. Excellent gun used by most of the top guys in IDPA.

Just bought one and I love it. Put on Warren FO sights. Very accurate and reliable.

I wouldn'say that Glock is not as accurate as CZ75B.
I wouldn't suggest either one of those i would take Glock 34 instead and enjoy some good shooting.
you will spend about 150 extra with taxes alltogether but you'll have a great gun for any purpose.
Me and buddy of mine at the same time bought handguns,i end up buying G34 and he bought CZ 75B.I that time i thought i made mistake and thinkng i should do the same. After few sessions on the range i wouldn't even think anything else other than G34.
I tried G22 in 40cal but wasn't as half accurate as G34.Never fired G17 so cant really tell.
