I have been shooting for over 25 years, so it is not a new concept to keep my finger off the trigger. I had 1 ND when i was 12 and i learned then. The beating my father gave me was good reniforcement of this practice.

Most of you are saying that i don't need a safety.

My 308 has a safety
My 3 shotguns all have a safety
My 10/22 has a safety
My sks has a very crappy safety, but still a safety

It seems crazy to me that many pistols don't have a safety and many of you support that.

My Sig has a decocker and I have learn to keep my finger off the trigger early in my life. Mechanical safety are pretty much useless and you should not rely on it as your main safety.

All my rifle do have mechanical safetis, they never get used because I never carry them with a round in the chamber and when there is one, its aimed at a target and ready to shoot.

OP dont get wrapoed around mechanical safeties and get some more pratical training wit a good instructor.

Like others have said, the SR9 has just about all the safeties possible and I recommend it for a first pistol / 9mm. There are a lot of things to like about it, and it's easier on the budget.

How about how you explain how the training LEOs receive is so advanced, because shooting at maximum 25 metres against a barricade with a 2 minute timer doesn't sound much more than basic pistol shooting to me.

I'm not going to waste any more energy on this. Believe what you choose to, just keep in mind there are a lot of different agencies with different guidelines.

What you mean is all modern pistols come with redundancy in their safeties so you actually have to fully pull the trigger to fire a round. Finger ( and apparently articles of clothing) off the trigger until your sights are on target and finger off trigger and slow reholstering ensuring a snag free path. That's all you need!

Didn't read all thread, sorry if I'm repeating somebody. I was choosing a handgun as well earlier this year, so in my opinion best safety has Beretta 92. When you turn safety on gun is decocked and firing pin actually is disconnected (for not having better term). Saying that I don't see need in safety in handguns in Canada because we are not allowed to carry guns anyway. On a range you load and shoot, I.e. your gun either pointed down the range or it's unloaded. You can have loaded gun in holster during competitions of course, but in that case safety wouldn't help your results.

As for me I picked CZ-75 Shadow out of all guns I considered, it has safety but I never used it so far.
