For several years I have been using a 42' LE No. I Mark III sporter I got with just iron sights (very accurate (my standards):redface: - I am getting 2" groups of 4@100yds).
I recently bought a monte carlo stock synthetic that comes with a rubber buttpad. Now I actually look forward to shooting it lots. Recoil is way less noticable. For me at least, it feels like my .223.
Now I will have to consider reloading .303 to save $$$;)
 
Whatever you do, do NOT shoot something with a Limbsaver. You won't go back to anything else :D .

Congrats on shooting ironsighted groups 1Billion time sbetter than I ever could. :dancingbanana:

If the damn thing is 42 feet long, you're already almost a sixth of the way to 100 yards!! No kidding its accurate! hehe :D:p
 
"...Recoil is way less noticable..." It's the width of the butt. Issue stocks are narrow and seem to focus the recoil on the shoulder.
"...reloading .303..." Slug the barrel first. It'll tell you the diameter of the barrel. A Lee-Enfield barrel can measure from .311" to .315" and still be considered ok. Over .315" the barrel is shot out. The manufacturers make .311" and .312" bullets. Won't shoot well out of a larger diameter barrel.
 
We did that to my friends rifle. He has a LE .303 of some variety that he just loved. I talked him into upgrading it a bit several years ago. We installed a synthetic stock set and a Bushnell Trophy scope. Then I found him a sweet load using Hornady 150 grain slugs and no kidding, it shoots cloverleaf groups at 100 yards. He polished the bolt and it's as smooth as any new rifle on a dealers shelf. This is his only hunting rifle and he loves it to death. When his Wife makes him sell his guns I'm buying that one. :evil:
