What a handy little lever gun

Short 12" barrel Mares Leg model.
Ordered the full size stock from Henry and it arrived.
Almost don't want to sell it but I like my BL22 a bit better due to a shorter lever throw.
I don't think I can make an on target follow up with the lever throw on the Henry.
Onto the EE it goes.

They are handy for sure, and easy to shoot even without the full stock due to the lack of recoil..... a red dot and a chin weld on the mare's leg stock is quite effective.

How much did the stock cost and was it a quick and easy order?

I need to get a stock for my 44 magnum mares leg. I don't think I want to do the chin weld shooting with this one lol
Did you get the stock direct from henry or did they have the canadian repair center send it to you?

Direct from Henry, $165 by the time it got to my door.

I love mine, it’s beat up from a previous owner lever flipping it so the barrel wobbles a little but the sights are on the barrel so it doesn’t affect accuracy, I got a stock off the EE and now use it for partridge hunting on occasion

Yeah nice little unit although the 12" barrel would work for me with iron sights. I'd have a hard time focusing un less I'd use my reading glasses.

Yea, that's what I use, i can usually only see the back or front on a long barrel, but not both, so I scope everything.
But a scope on a lever is just plain wrong.

That's why I put a Skinner sight on mine.

Skinner is a good option for extending the sight radius for sure, Nice setup Grain!

You could probably trim a couple inches off that butt stock and still be able to shoulder and shoot the rifle comfortably.... a little more compact and more balanced looking with the short barrel.

Right on, I'm tall but not that tall.... Your tall enough to run it in a holster with the original stock!

It's amazing how much you can effect the actual length of pull by varying the shoulder stance in relation to the target.... square up the shoulders for a longer feeling length of pull and go more bladed if you want the stock to feel shorter.

I also prefer function,fit...... and at the end of the list looks. If a guy was to cut a couple inches off the long stock and it still functions, fits and is lighter, more compact and it looks better..... well that's almost too much win for just one man!

Not sure why you think it's all about the look.... that's just icing on the cake.

A buddy had this issue with his cowboy action Rossi 92. I flipped the rear sight around so it extends forward from the dovetail. Yeah, it shortened the sight baseline but it made the sight picture enough clearer that it worked out for him. For good accuracy if you tried this you just need to be a little more careful to get the proper sight picture as it won't be as tolerant of slight misalignments. But at least you'll be able to SEE the misalignments more easily....

Another trick I've done to almost all of my own rifles with regular irons is to file out the often very shallow "V" notches to a more bold square "|_|"notch. I make this wide enough that I use the sights like a pistol and see slivers of light down each side. The square notch acts a lot like a peep/aperture sight and sharpens up my view of the front post. And round dot or square front I set them so the top of the front sight goes even with the corners of the rear notch just like a pistol. Good for us folk with "oldguyeyetis" issues...

The other option is Grain's Skinner or perhaps a Marbles tang mount peep. The Skinner is nicer for woods work though since there's nothing to snag or get ripped away.
