I was browsing the web and some forums and I fell on these picture . What a nice set up for a Ranch Hand & a Mares . Instant temporary modification that make that little gun much more versatile !

Picture taken from the web :

Never really understood those gun/rifles. I know if i had one i would get someone to make me a full stock for it.

They do have a legitimate usage in Canada.

Anyone with a PAL can legally carry one in a leg-holster while in the bush. No ATC required.

Up close and personal defense from wild animals. Self-defense shooting at 10 yards or less. (possibly point-blank range even?)

Other than that, they're just a neat and fun thing to have.

I assume that's a home-made one-off gizmo. Doesn't look as polished as a finished commercial product.

I would love a product that lends that kind of functionality to the Ranch Hand, but I also enjoy shooting the gun as-is...I'll never do a mod that isn't quickly and easily removable. Full-size buttstocks are too much of a commitment.:)

in the USA with full stock is a 200 tax stamp hack the stock off it's a pistol under USA laws. So an AK 47 with no stock is a pistol and doesn't need a 16.5 inch barrel if they're under it's a SBR (short barrel rifle)

I was at the range last weekend and the guy next to me was shooting his ranch hand. He had made a buttstock extension out of what appeared to be laminate. Sunk inot the end was a big honking magnet. Thought it was pretty neat.

I can't imagine walking on the bush with that strapped to my leg.

They look neat but I still would prefer if I was able to carry a holstered revolver while hunting or strolling. The ability to harvest grouse while pretending to moose hunt would be wonderful thing.

Screw "practical" and "legitimate use"!

Load gun. Aim. Fire. Watch target blow up, fall over or get perforated. Smile. Repeat as desired.

Unmatched practicality! :)

I like that! Why own something so "useless"? Because it makes me smile. Permission to plagiarize for my sig-line?

X2,
They are fun to shoot in stock form and the .357 is easy to control and hit with if you are of average to above average strength.
The bonus in Canada is that we can modify the butt stock any way we like or run a full stock if we wish with no govt involvement.

For the people that " I don't get it?"

Google "Wanted: Dead or Alive "

It's a Hollywood inspired gun but it is fun to shoot and a great little bush/backpacking gun. If you can't handle or shoot it accurately with the short stock add an extension or full stock. Simple.

I bought a full stock for mind and plan to shorten it a bit so it balances nicely with the short barrel but still provides a good shoulder mount.

OP is there any pictures of the rail for the flashlight? Do you have a link to where the pictures came from?

Best check your provincial game laws. Here in NB, you can carry a firearm only in the woods with a hunting license. To carry a firearm of 23 caliber or better it must be deer or bear season AND you must have a bear or deer license.

Those are inspired by a very old Steve McQueen TV western called Wanted:Dead or Alive. They're toys just like very short barreled shotguns. They would be of no use whatsoever against irate animals either.
A firearm doesn't require a reason to be or a "legitimate" use. "I want one." is reason enough.

Just joined but I've been hanging around for quite awhile. I bought a .44 Rossi ranch hand to replace the heavy 870 in my pack and was considering getting a full size stock to swap out with the original. Thats when I found my an wooden stock, a 1" rare earth magnet and a couple of .250 ss pins. Its rock solid but pulls apart with a little effort and shoots much nicer. Hopefully the pics show up and I posted correctly- if not I'll try again tomorrow.:)

I have a .45 Henry Mares Leg
Great little rifle, and a lot of fun.
I also have a beautiful Cochise leg holster for it, works great, usually just slung over my shoulder though.
I have no problem holding it out steady for firing, I have never taken to a range but I am good to easily 50 yards.
Probably should have went with a .44 but quite happy with mine and wouldn't be worried about running into any size critter if worse came to worse.
Normally the bears, etc. in this area are more scared of you than the other way around, but nice to have as a backup.
I have had friends also not so lucky and get trapped at camp with guns in boat, you just never know when you might need one.

She ain't no revolver, but it can be holstered and it is legal to carry through the bush. The nice thing is it is quiet, so whilst hunting for deer i can take grouse and pesky squirrels in near silence.
