Maybe we shorty fourteen owners can find a definitive answer?? We Wet Coasters certainly have chopped enough shorties recently to get a valid sample.

Anyone have time to shoot their M-14 shorty rifles?
Or are you all like me ....
too darn busy workin on the guns to shoot them??

What kind of groups do you get?
Iron sights or scoped?
What ammo does your shorty like best?

Hmmmmmmm???
Enquiring minds want to know???????

With my last Shorty I could hit 6" X 6" steel plates with iron sights from the off-hand position every shot..............I never mounted optics on it as that was my KISS gun...............;)

I intended the Shorty to be a short range (100m to 200m) gun, so I was more then happy with that performance.

SKBY.

18.5 Barrel
shot for the first time today
Im not doing this gun justice or I just need more time:(
iron only ( norinco sights , not usgi sight )
no optics
all 308 ammo as my head spacing is 1.630 :dancingbanana:
-- 150 gr Remington - express core lokt
shot like crap about a 1 foot grouping at 100y
casings were tossed to the 3 oclock position about 12 inches away
no jams
-- 165 gr federal premium - vital shock
not too bad hit about 1.5 - 2 moa
out of 10 rounds had one jam ( case was not ejected properlly and the bolt closed on it )
casing were tossed to the 2 oclock position about a foot away
-- 168 gr winchester - supreme
pretty good 1.5 moa
no jams as those casings were over the bleachers :D
casings tossed about 4-5 feet to the 2 oclock postions

my overall opinion is that its a great gun but will take some time to become one with it.
I think im going to get a small optic with some bridge so I can still use the irons ( will be ordering some good quality BUIS )

Theoretically as long as you have the right amount of twist for the type of bullet
the length of the barrel should not have a huge effect on accuracy. Those Savage bolt action pistols are reasonably accurate because apparently the barrel is nice and stiff. I am by no means an expert though.

After shortening my M14s To 18.5, installing a S/A supermatch trigger group, gas block, piston, Badger spring guide, JAE stock , SEI mount and a Mk4 scope , the rifle consitently shoots 1 moa.
I found 155 Palma bullets, in Federal brass with BLC2 powder worked as good as this gun will.

P&D Enterprises Norc Supermatch SOCOM's, shot constantly 1.5-2MOA with Hornady TAP 168Gr

hey guys.... if ya don't mind me askin...... what kinda guts /barrels do those P&D socoms have.... all usgi or ???
also, what is the finish..... dura coat or black phosphate? they look so sweet ;)
I'd like to get my shorty norc/usgi hybrid done in that rich black finish, i think it would be killer lookin especially in this M1A walnut stock... this one just came off my build bench and is going to the range for her virgin run tomorow. I'll try and find time for a range report

I dont mind you askin at all... Ill be pickin your brain for some optic stuff soon :D
The P&D has USGI bolt headspaced to 1.63
Match grade op rod guide ( not sure if USGI or not, but way chunkier than the stock norc one for sure )
trigger group polish and cleaned let off ( no idea what that means but the trigger is still pretty heavy )
gas cylinder tune and fiber washer ( again no idea what that means )
custom cylinder gas lock ( cnc machined )
barrel indexed instead of the washer job

as far as the stock all I know is that its glass bedded and fiberglass
the coating i think is phosphate but im not sure ... has that hardened smooth feeling like its plastic gel that has been shillacked ( best way to discribe it )
Hope that answers you question :)

Ps dont ever do anything to that walnut ... if ya ever wanna sell it gimme a holler:dancingbanana:

For more data on the P&D Socoms, P of P&D and M39A2 on this board would be the people to talk to. An outstanding Edmonton area gunsmith called Mr K Keon is the builder of these fine machines.
