What action for a precision build...?

I'm not really familiar with Robertson stocks: I'm sure a 54 action could be used but I don't think it comes fully inletted.

Peter Krause is a super nice guy to deal with but I was not aware that Eley match ammo was again available from International Imports, it's been months since they had Tenex or Match in stock. What exactly did you ordered ?

Paul

I ordered a brick each of:

Eley Team
Lapua Master
Lapua Super Club
Lapua Centre-X

1. internaitonal imports and hirsh just got in stock a month ago or so, donot know any pricing

2. that guy in kamloops has 2 54 actions in older models and was supposed to send me pics 2 weeks ago through the sports store, both were about 900 so add a stock and away you go

3. buy used and get flags and some ammo, lapua or eley lower range and then

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

I will take pics of the one piece rest and case but who can post them for me

Jefferson

I can post pics for you, PM me.

Rishu, I saw these on sale at walmart for $49.99 on clearance although I think Jeff got this one cheaper :D

James Pappas Rest

it was 49.99 but PLUS TAX

special jewelling the only other one he did was for his daughter, (so I am almost family)
all it takes is money,

and yes I have not shot off of it but I have only had it for about 16 months or so
lots of time yet

need my head examined

but this shows you what is available to enjoy this sport,

The money I saved by not having children is helping Jeff expand his retirement portfolio :D

Didn't get the 54's but your close, it is a deep dark secret just of yet. when I want to show my cards I will, till then pony up :D

The gun or the rest? :D

I guess Jeff didn't want to sell me those 54's, so he sent the pics to you. ;)

yes hall action

benchmark barrel reverse taper not sure in the groves, calfee reamer that one with 1 1/2 leade and no end on it so to cut the extractoer grooves they had to put the ammo EPS chamber in it and then finish it off, not sure how to describe it.

also terry leonard stock glue in by steve kostanich so I had the barrel off for shipping so as not to bust the glue in,
normally I like pillar and skim bed but steve did not want to take a chance to damage the stock in any way by inserting pillars, I told him to go ahead but he would not, he is a perfectionist and said no politely,
no trigger as it is fired remotely (just kidding)

the one piece rest is now only 675 or 625 us plus shipping, tax export and so on,

and I had sent the pics on before I read the post to send to you, and I am unable to do PM sending at this time, dont know how.

the rest is nice and should track weel, just discovered I must have the other pice for a front stop in my safe somewhere as I have a spare set of insets for the front bag side grippers to change over depending on the stock configeration, you will note the taper to the side stock squeezers, now with the new slab sided stocks I asked for and got new ones as a spare, no trouble with the current ones though.

neat stuff, wait until I post on windflags, even better stuff.

will look in the safes this weekend for stuff to sell

I'll just buy this from you, save you all the trouble.

I might be out in left field, but I'm quite impressed with the Sako Quad. The quality and design seem to be second to none, and the switch barrel feature should be a boon to the benchrest crowd.
Mike

you are walking towards left field yes indeed

for Benchrest (I said Benchrest with a capital B) the quad is junk-o-la

the fit from recievor to barrels is not good and if you get a lilja drop in for example the recievors strech and sometimes come apart, as with other barrels, most gunsmiths in the usa will not install barrels of the custom variety on a quad,

now the Sako P94S (I am looking for one now) and have one are pretty good, just have to get a jewell clone trigger and br stock and away you go, not bad for factory with some add-ons,

there were 3 nice sako finfires in the usa that were really nice, goron eck had one for 1400 us that had a nice stock and good trigger work and ignition work done to it, won a state sporter championship last year as well, (could be the guy behind the gun)

so any finfires 94s for sale anywhere for me,

buy a good used or new anschutz with a nice trigger and away you go,

IS THERE ANY INTEREST FOR BENCHREST TOPICS 101

I would be willing to start topics that define the sport and equipment, I am not a smallbore good shooter yet but do know a thing or 2 about equipment,

shilen barrels update

I may have misspoke (do that a lot)
there seems to be a concensus that the current run of shilen 4 groove racket battels are as good or better than the lilja with the new calfee lapping technique.

since mystic can get them in if you want one now may be a good time as any.

however for a drop in lilja or shien would do you well,

BUT GET A 16 TWIST AND NOT A 17 the colder air mass movement does not lend itself to the 17 1/2 twist barrels (suhl is the exception) in canada. both gene davis and butch hongisto told me that when ordering a gun to be built.

also the gaulin boys said they would consider doing a few rimfire rifles maybe in late 09 or 10 but dont hold your breath, I was willing to pay extra to get some mdae in canada and try to sell them or presell them as it were to no avail ,

I have not heard, nor could I see how the quad receiver could stretch, or come apart. If you paid close attention, the Quad is actually a further refinement of the Finnfire action. I've fired over 10,000 rounds through mine with no issues. You may not like the gun, but in my opinion it is about the best currently available sporting rimfire available (and I've owned many).
Mike

sako rimfire

1. I like the sako and the quad, but the 94s is better for Benchrest with a capital B, not casual br shooting. (my opinion) When attemping to get a sako sporter built in the us of a 4 gunsmiths told me ot get a 94s and not the quad.

2. putting a million rounds through a gun proves nothing and so does my position of the streching of the action. Howver putting barrels on back and forth (I have 3 sotcks for my sako including a austrailian lacewood br stock) and extra barrels to test for accuracy may not be a good thing, if you have 1 custom barrel and the fit is great then good for you. It will work,

BUT if you want to buy 4 barrels to test and they dont fit, then there is troubles.

SIMILAR to the arguements that the annie 2013 is hard to bed with the 4 bolt system, some will not do it at all in the usa br gunsmith cicles.

3. that greenish ruger is also neat and might shoot great, get a mwerks llc forend adapter and go to town on the bench.

please do not be offended as we all strive for accuracy beyond belief. It is hard to achieve and some get thier feathers ruffled along the way,
I just try to assist with my limited knowledge. your also adds to the mix where we can discuss things openly and in an attempt to find solutions along the way.

4. similarly the remington 504 has interchangalbe barrels like the quad, ruger 77 and perhaps others, I prefer a 2013 and that is why the unfired 504 if for sale, (tolerences my friend, leads me to believe in my search a annie with 4 barrels will be more accurate and fun than the 504 with 1 or 2 barrels)
same results different paths.

again not to be critical of Mike ,just a small opinion difference. The quad is very popular as a sporter and some of the stocks you can get are WOW.

thanks, not trying to ruffle any fellings, just trying to get the word out. some of us have spent a lot of time and money travelling to the usa to see these things first hand and wish to share information when we can.
