I'm 13 years old and I'm obbssed with guns. I want to start shooting but I don't know what age I need to be and how to start shooting.
Any help would be great.

Thanks, Nick

Well, you have to be 18 to own and aquire guns, and use them by yourself. You need at least a Possesion and Aquisition license issued by the federal government.

However, if you know someone who is legally able to own and use guns, you can shoot with them at any time. They have to be with at all times though.

First you are not "obsessed" with guns.

You have a healthy interest in firearms and would like to know more............RIGHT!

My son started shooting .22s when he was 5 years old, moved to handguns at 9 and started shooting IPSC with me at 12.
Now at 16 he has a Glock 17, Tanfoglio Stock, and a AR15.

Legaly you can get a Junior Permit at age 12 so you are behind the curve in that respect.
The BIG thing is to have a mentor to show you the ropes. That need not be your father or other relative but it helps.

Not true.

Not true at all.

If you are going to give advice as fact make sure you are correct. Otherwise add the words " I think" before your point.

Well, correct me then. I admit I was wrong about the supervision thing, but that was a brain fart on my part. To say I was completely wrong is just as wrong as my statement.

From the CFC, to set him straight.....

Firearm Users Younger than 18
Those under 18 years of age are not permitted to bring firearms into Canada or to acquire firearms by any means, even as a gift, but they can use them under some circumstances.
Minor’s Licence
A minor’s licence permits the borrowing of non-restricted firearms (ordinary rifles and shotguns) for the following activities:

target practice
organized shooting competitions
hunting
being instructed in the use of firearms
A minor's licence also permits the acquisition of ammunition, unless there is an age restriction under provincial or territorial law.

As a general rule, the following requirements must be met to be eligible for a minor's licence:

The applicant must be at least 12 years old. If they are younger than 12, they may obtain a minor's licence only if they are Canadian residents and their Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) determines that they need to hunt or trap to sustain themselves or their family.
As a general rule, they must pass the Canadian Firearms Safety Course tests before they apply for a licence. However, an exception may be made if they are Canadian residents and they need to hunt or trap in order to sustain themselves or their family.
A licence application form (CAFC 671) can be obtained by contacting the CFO. Non-residents can contact the CFO of the province or territory where they will most likely use the firearm.

A firearms officer may interview the applicant or their parent/guardian, who must first agree and consent to the conditions under which the minor may use firearms, before a minor's licence will be issued.

Conditions may be placed on the licence. For example, some supervision may be required when they use a firearm.

The minor's licence will expire on the earlier of:

the 18th birthday, or
the expiry date shown on their licence

Nick,

Try and find yourself a local club that runs a structured junior program, where you can take your healthy interest, and turn it into a passion for target shooting.

As a pistol and rifle coach I have come across junior shooters much younger than you who believed they were obsessed, and turned them into fine target shooters.

Find a program with qualified coaches who can show you the right way to approach the sport.

I started my son with a .22 at 8 yrs old, moved him into ARs when he turned 9, hand guns are still bit too much for him, recoil still hard to handle at his age.

Minor firearm licence will give you the ability to carry a non-restricted firearm for hunting as well.
