What age to start kid hunting?

I started my kids in a back pack shed hunting and 3d shoots at age 2, I take them out for gophers and let them shoot the .22. My daughter came with me Mule deer hunting at age 7 and my middle Son came White tail hunting this year at 6. They walked close to me and hung out in the truck. They had a hoot and want to go again really soon.

Get them on it young, they will remember those hunts...trust me.

My dad started taking me when I was 2 years old, started hunting rabbits and squirrels at 8 or so. Shot my first wolf at 10 and started deer at 12.
This past fall we had my 2 year old niece with us deer hunting, we were parked on one of our fields glassing and talking when she started saying "Deer daddy deer" we looked around saw nothing and said "There is no deer". Her response was "NO daddy look there" and there was a nice one, I got out and proceded to miss the bugger. She looked at me and said "Opps no deer". She is going to be a redneck girl.

Adventure is an important part of life, and that is what a dad should provide for his children. I want to take my children as soon as I can, carry then in a back pack or sit in a stand, whatever, lets just get out there and show our children what life is really all about before they get caught in front of the t.v screen.

12 years is the legal age here in Manitoba. My old man had me hunting way before that though.

I think my daughter is 16 months old in this picture. If their big enough to sit in the truck, as long as you have someone else with you to be with them if you have to chase something, take them along. she had a blast on this trip. all she wanted was a ride on the bear.
I started tagging along with my dad when I was really young. There are a few pictures of me next to whitetail when I was probably only two years old.
I started to shoot with a pellet gun and a .22 when I was ~3-4. Gophers with the .22 and magpies/sparrows with the pellet gun. There's no such thing as too young!

Taking them hunting is a grat experience.
I don't know if I would want to start a youngster with a kill on his first hunt as it might come as a shock they just killed something. A lot of it is frame of mind and there are a number of "men" who were turned off hunting with their first kill and never went back. Unfortunate but true. Eatting venison is far different from being up to your elbows in blood and guts. Much like starting someone shooting a large centre fire rather than working up. Some people are disgusted to hear a hunter describing a hunt but think nothing of pulling a fish from the deeps, allowing it to flop around in the bottom of a boat and then club it to death. Approach is everything and preparation can go a long way in the education process.

I've been taking my son since he was 4 he's 7 now.I had him with me last season when I got a buck,I wasn't sure how he'd react to the gutting.Pulled the guts out and the heart was still twitching,my son asked if he could hit it with a stick.Don't think it bothered him too much lol.
He was involved to whole way from the dragging to the hanging and skinning.He accused me of not pulling while we were dragging the deer to the truck.
My son has a savage cub,I let him carry it when we go hunting(it's his job to bag the grouse).

I took my boy out to hunting camp at 9 months. By three, he has a clear understanding of the basic concepts of hunting and that a big, smelly moose equals fine dining if you do your job. He's eager to go out all the time.
My daughter wants to go Turkey hunting in the spring, she will be 3 1/2 years old. I figure that taking her out for a few hours really won't hurt me, even if she is loud, as long as she can sit between my legs we will be fine.
She is getting a Red Ryder Pink BB gun for her B-day in November, and the following year I will probably pick up a Cooey Bolt action .22 for her. Or a tang action .22 single.
She is in love with animals and fishing and the outdoors. She always talks about hunting and loves eating the spoils of the hunt too.
My baby girl tho... my wife said she isn't allowed to be turned into a tom boy. Ha Ha we'll see. She is 10 months old now, I see the first camo outfit coming soon.

Once they started school, I would pull them out for a few days to go to deer camp. Had a few run-ins with some teachers that didn't feel that was appropriate.
Both had their licenses as soon as they were old enough.

My Daighters are 9 and 8. They've come along hunting since they were in carseats. My oldest shot her first gopher last Easter, but my younger doesn't quite have the attention span to shoot safely.(She gets too excited) It all depends on the child.
They always want to see my kills and even touch them. They save gopher tails and each have a pelt on their beds. Fox/Coyote. When they were young they saw their first dead deer. All they said was "yuck" , but they still come hunting/shooting every time I go.
