What am I doing wrong? Upper/lower fitment issue...

I picked up my first AR-15 a couple days ago. I have a BCL-102 so I not a complete newbie with modern sporter rifles. Picked up the AR as a complete rifle that was nice and tight with no wiggle. Took it apart to clean and lube before first range trip and I'll be damned if I can't get the thing back together!

I can't even get the upper/lower to sit tight like they were when I got it. Little gap at the back of the upper by the buffer tube and takedown pin won't line up. Am i missing something stupid? Or is that just how it goes sometimes?

Came apart easy, just pushed the rear takedown pin out and it hinged open. Cleaned it up and it just boggles my mind that I'm having trouble with it. I haven't resorted to beating on anything yet, its brand new yet!

Left the brand out as this is CGN and I want to avoid the inevitable "shoulda bought brand x instead of brand y"
 
Were you pulling the upper into the lower? The buffer spring pushes the Buffer forward, so you need to "pull" the upper towards the rear to push the spring back to engage the rear takedown.

No tools should be used while assembling ar 15. When you put together upper and lower hold the rifle in a vertical position, mazzel against the table. Let the firing pin slide down. You should be able to assemble your rifle with no issues

Well, you did state it’s a BCL-102. We should all know that’s Black Creek Labs. And BCL is the same as NEA, just different. So I’d say something’s a bit out of spec.

OP said he also has a BCL102. Rifle in question is AR15
Also agree that you shouldnt have to tap upper with mallet.
 
How do you mean? He didn’t say ‘also’. Said he picked up his first AR15. If that’s his first one, he states it’s a BCL-102. Regardless of make, something is off kilter if a mallet is needed. Maybe the OP can clarify.

He doesn't state it's a BCL. He only states that he has one, so hes not a total newbie.
 
And this crap is why I cringe to ask anything on CGN....

It's not a BCL/NEA.

I'm going to split it apart again and use some of the constructive helpful tips from you guys to see if maybe there is a simple trick I wasn't doing the first time and report back with what I find.

I'm going to lube up the pins better this time too. It just had the packing grease or whatever on it, so some better lube might help.
