I just acquired an as new Anschutz 1717, 17 HMR in a trade with a customer and the factory target that came wih it shows an incredible sub. 1/2 moa grouping for 5 rounds at 100yds. but no data as to what make of ammo was used. I am going to keep this gun for myself but Dianne is making me sell a bunch of guns she claims I don't use anymore (even if you own a gun store there is still issues with wives). Anyone have any experience with this gun in 17 HMR and what it the interest level in the Anschutz rifles in general as we are about to get into this line in the near future. Also what fellings do you have between the Weatherby/Anschutz rimfires and the Anschutz produced guns. Phil.

Probably not the answer you are looking for but the only way to find out what ammunition it likes is to try a bunch and see for yourself. My HMR seems to like the Federal V-max, but others are much different. Might want to try one box from Hornady (v-max) one from Federal (v-max), one from CCI (You can get these in hollow tip called TNT I believe), Winchester and remington.

Anschutz are very well liked around here but many people can not justify the price of spending so much on a rimfire. I haven't seen too many in the .17 calibers, mainly in .22lr but the people who have em love em :)

federal v shok vmax poly tip P771 P771 P771

Steve Boelter book on riflemans guide to rimfire ammunition shows this or the other P770 as the most accurate rounds in most BETTER TARGET GRADE HMR rifles

.579 5 5 shot groups at 100 yards most other ammo does not come close

remember your milage may vary but I have found the P771 a little better than the P770

cheaper rifles like various other stuff and other brands are more popular for gopher shooting

the _P770 is more of a target round.

I was in on saturday you have a nice gun shoot it well and please use it more than you have in the past

all work and no play makes P a dull boy

have fun see you both at calgary jeff
