I just got into air rifles and calibrated mine with flatheads (came with the set). After finishing the tin in a week I went to Le Baron to pick some up. I got Gamo Master point, Magnum and Hunter. I tried shooting all 3 and found that the hunter was way off from my calibration and the other two shot dead on.

What do you guys prefer for target use and hunting? Gamo Hunter says impact on it but I don't see why a tipped pellet would be less efficient.
The cashier also tried to upsell me to 'hollow points' but I didn't see the benefits and she couldn't explain them to me either. I can understand how real hollow pointed bullets would shatter and cause more damage but the pellets just looked like inverted tips.

Sorry, I'm brand new to this. Any help and opinions would be appreciated.

Have a look at the Gamo PBA Raptor Pellets...

Also, note that hollow points are not intended to be frangible and should not shatter.

What are you planning to 'hunt' ?

I would shoot small game at a close distance if anything...squirrel or rabbit at most.

Crossman was a little more expensive with the same shaped pellets but I kind of gravitated toward the gamo for some reason. Crossman has been a walmart or canadian tire brand to me.

I'll see if they have a raptor pellet next time.

Avoid gimmic super speed lightweight pellets as they will damage your gun maybe permanently.JSB jumbos for general use/hunting,JSB Predators pest control /upland game and H+N [Beeman] field and target....................Harold

JSB offers a great pellet lineup ... from mild to wild ... for hunting or pest control the pellet should be accurate enough to make those well placed KZ shots and deliver a payload that will humanly dispatch your intended target... For this, might I suggest trying the JSB predictor pellets... see if your gun will shoot these accurately and if it does, you now have got a top notch pellet for the job in which it was design for.... Hunting from a >500fps gun for maximum effect... Shoot within the limitations of both you and your equipment..

For field target, JSB seems to have a pellet that will shoot accurately from any of the airguns I own... HTH

Have been using .177 RWS Superpoints for pest control work. Not as accurate as the flatpoints, but suitable. At 8.2 grs. I wish they were a bit heavier.

I have been runing with RWS Superpoint with great results, I was thinking about going with some PBA's but want to hear from someone else who has used them and if they are worth the money?

For plinking and target shooting, I've always had a preference for the Crosman Premier Field and Target. These come in a big brown bulk box that lasts me one year. I usually pick it up in the US. I think that DL Airgun & Specialty Shooting Sports carry it here. These are not the same as the Premier's that CT carries in the red tin.

JSB Exacts and Predators also. I have some H&N (Barracuda Match Extra Heavy? I can't remember and they aren't handy at the moment) but they all shoot well.

Those Barracuda Match Extra Heavy's at 21 gr. are the same weight as my Diana domes in .25 cal.
Talk about your knock-down power, they must anchor them on the spot! KD

They work pretty well, I think they're traveling at around 1000fps, but I'm just guessing because I was shooting the JSB Exacts at about 1100fps as per the chronograph.

Dont mater what pellet you like or I like its what pellet your rifle likes. Try a bunch and ask your gun.:D:D

It does help to get the best made pellets that you can find, and for my money, it's JSB .
The JSB Exacts are domed and give excellent long range accuracy with a pretty good thump.
You can get them in different diameters to better fit your bore too.
I haven't shot the predators long range, but at 25yds, the starlings fall right out of the trees.
