What ammo does your 10/22 prefer?

At the moment I'm getting pretty consistent performance across the board of several ammunitions. Makes me wonder if I have a barrel that just isn't really better with any ammo.. Going to the range today yielded some pretty good results, but at the end was ruined with my Troy T22 chassis disassembling because I hadn't tightened the bolts tight enough and the bipod had caused pressure etc..

Anyways, now that I have fixed this, I will return to the range and re-examine, but meanwhile I just wanted to see what ammo people had best luck with their 10/22's?

Thanks

My regular old 10/22 eats all ammo and is accurate with all; but the target model doesn't handle truncated cone type ( it prefers a round nose ), it seems to shave lead off the truncated.

I fired somewhere around 30k American Eagle 40gr solid through mine before I gave it to a new shooter. Never a problem feeding or firing, but accuracy sucked. Minute of clay @ 75yd.

I have only ever had problems with the American Eagle in the Red Box. I had nothing but problems with it. Everything else runs like a dream (blazer, federal bulk pack, mini-mags etc).

Best accuracy with mine is with 40gr. Winchester Power Points followed by CCI Mini Mags. Whatever ammo you use, it takes about 25 rounds to get it accurate. Something to do with leading the barrel. Once you have it shooting accurately with whatever ammo, do NOT clean the barrel.Or you will have to start over again with the 25 rounds. So switching ammo every mag full does not work for testing accuracy. And the only way to test accuracy is over a bench rest without any wind. 1022s are not that accurate compared to bolt actions like a CZ. If you can get 1 inch 5 shot groups consistently at 50yds with a 1022. That's about as good as it gets. A decent bolt gun will half that easily. Some shooters think that keeping all shots on paper is accurate. Nada.

My SR22 dioesn't seem to like unplated lead bullets (I've had some federal and some blazer I think), they tend to get ftf regularly. It does seem to like anything plated - Win 555s and Dynapoints. Dynapoints seem to be better for accuracy.

Nice input..

I have several 10/22s. My go to one is camo/stainless that I carry with me every. When new it shot poor groups,FTF, Stovepiped, I was basically U.S. I have never cleaned it in three years! All my other guns are pampered to death, for the record! After about 500 rounds things started to improve, now my stainless camo is my most accurate 22 in 10/22 model. It's not a match rifle, but will shoot a groundhog in the head at 50 yards, or a partridge in the head at 25 yards. It never FTF anymore, and it shoots whatever you feed it, yes, some better than others by 1/4 inch at 25 yds, Im trying to wear that gun out, and can't! It was $299 when I bought it, everything is as Ruger made it, I love that rifle. I often carry mixed ammo with me, and guess what, they all get it done! My Two high end bolts are much fussier about ammo and cleaning, and yes, they shoot a LITTLE better. Respectfully Jim Mansell

Since day 1 I've used Remington Yellowjackets in the 10/22 almost exclusively......gun easily has 20k rounds thru it.
Gone thru close to 5k rounds in last 2 months, few misfires and consistent accuracy.
I'm not a range shooter, these are gopher killing rounds so my needs are probably a bit different.
Between the 10/22 and 17 HMR I've got over 2000 Ks.....fun but expensive:)

I have yet to have a problem with any ammo in my 10/22...I've fed it wildcat, win 525 bulk, rem golden bullet, all cci brands, and blazer 525. all feed awesome!
