Ive noticed my local store is buying rifles that look like assault (AR-type) but fall under non-restricted, anything new and cool I should be looking for? I dont like all the "restrictions" associated with the restricted rifles.

some models would be appreciated as I am only familiar with the CZ-858 but im looking for something a bit more fancy.

I think .223 is what Im looking at as some of the gadgets I want ie. NV scope arent recommended for a larger .cal. plus ill be feeding many rounds through it, ill feel better shooting a cheap .223

Prepare to spend lots of money if you want quality. On average it's an extra thousand dollars.

XCR-L, ACR with NR barrel, Swiss Arms, SU16f, then there's stuff like the Tavor, Kriss, Just Right, Thureon Defense, that deviate a bit from the AR style.

They've all been debated to death, someone asks about them on average three times a week, you should find lots of info if you go back a few pages.

it all depends on your budget. my advice is look at the XCR,swiss arms classic or tavor if you have the $
and remember AR15 = Armalite Rifle model 15..not "assault rifle"

Ah, you beat me to it!! So many (thanks stupid media) think that AR stands for 'assault rifle' when you correctly pointed out, it stands for the manufacturers name Armalite Rifle.

actually i knew that lol, just used both terms in the same reference so i sounded like a noob.
thanks for all the suggestions guys those should keep me busy for a while, but keep em commin!

amd what are the main reasons that make a rifle non-restricted but still have the same look and function as an AR style?

what about the Benelli Mr1, i saw a few pics and it had the assault rifle kind of look. Came in a .223 caliber as well. i believe it falls under the Non -Restricted category as well. i am currently waiting on my first handgun, and just started to look at some rifles. has anyone had good or bad experiences with the Mr1?

They don't function like an AR15, other than being semi-aautomatic. AR15's are named as restricted, so if the other gun isn't an AR and meets the definition of a Non Restricted rifle, it is classed as such.

In my opinion the MR1 is probaly the best gun for quality versus money spent in .223 that is readily available to buy that is non restricted. this ofcourse could be debated till the cows come home.

My vote would be the XCR-L. You can run 7.62 x 39 during hunting season, then swap it over to 223 for gopher season.

I think pretty much as with any choice in purchases, it comes down to bucks. An fn 2000 or a tavor are exotic beauties, but for the money, the xcr-l wins hands down in the non restricted category.

Yes after looking at a few of the suggestions the XCR-L definitely seems to be both in my price range and the quality I am looking for. Any Idea who has them in Stock?

Both my local "Al's" shops (Al Flaherty's, and Al Simons) are sold out and it almost pisses me off when i hear all the shops say the same thing "we don't know when its coming in"... and that goes from scope rings, to rounds, to rifles to pretty much anything they don't have in stock.... why do all shops "never know"... does it bug you guys as much as it does me? lol

If I had a company I would be able to tell my customers at least within a month of product arrival... Im not sure if the Firearms industry is different in the respect but its damn annoying. And Im not hating on those two specific shops, because it seems like they are all the same in that aspect.

With all the crap happening down south not going to end anytime soon I doubt you will get an answer for a while. There are usually lots for sale on the EE if you don't mind paying more for used then new, or get on a waiting list. Watch here as well.

The new 580 series Ruger mini 14 and drop it in the Archangel stock. A lot cheaper than most others and has the nice reliable garand style action. Hard to find high cap mags for it though.

I prefer the term ergonomically comfortable, when describing such firearms. After all is said and done, ergonomics has an awful lot to do with their design and function.
