What are short scopes called?

I see some guys running 3-9x's on their SKS's (which eject up into the scope). But they are using small compact scopes so as to avoid having the shell hit them. Is there a specific name/type on this type of short scope?

Also, I know the SKS isn't a precision rifle. So, I'm not looking for a 6-24x scope or anything. LOL, I'd like a 3-9x in a short configuration though to help my bad eyes. But I also like the idea of being able to mount it on a shotgun. Which is why I'd like it to be short (so it doesn't look foolish). But it would be fun shooting slugs with some optic aid. Any thoughts on how a shotgun would effect durability of a scope?
Any recommendations?

I am currently using three different optics on the sks
(1) Tasco Bantum (shotgun) 7.25" long
(2) Leapers 6x32AO mini 8.5" long
(3) Simmons red dot
Although the Tasco and Leapers are inexpensive Chinese
imports I have had no problems. The optics are clear and
with several hundred rounds down range still holding zero.
I would suggest a drill and tap mount,Choate or Weaver
Converta mount. esque
 
I have a convertamount in the mail from Wholesalesports, as SKSMAN doesn't seem to reply to emails.

I also bought a Tasco RedDot just to try red dots out. It's my first. I've had an old pair of Tasco Bino's for 25 years that were rattling around unprotected in my moms trunk. They still work amazing, so I'm confident in my Tasco Red Dot. Just pointing it around the house, I'm amazed at how intuitive red dots are.

If anyone is considering a red dot, DO IT. They are 100% more amazing than you think. Both eyes open while sighting a target gives amazing situational awareness.

I'm still on the prowl for a short 3-9x though. Thanks for the replies guys.

Paul only answers telephones as he is from the generation pre computer's. Give him a call as this guy knows more about SkS's then I know about myself.

Scopes intended for slug gun use differ mainly in having the parallax set for a shorter distance. Many rifles have comparable or heavier recoil; in general, many of the cheap scopes on the market would be a poor choice for any sort of heavy recoiling firearm.
 
No. "Scout" scopes are long eye relief for mounting on the barrel, forward of the action.

You could do that on an SKS and it would answer the problem of ejecting empties being obstructed by a scope in the conventional position, but in this case he is talking about compact scopes that mount over the receiver, entirely behind the ejection opening.
