I've compared Zeiss, Swarovski, and Pentax side by side after dark outside with a store clerk. Neither he nor I could tell the difference between the three so I bought the Pentax. It's pretty hard to discount companies that manufacture camera lenses with their own high grade glass made in-house. The Pentax were 8x42 (same as the others) and cost $800 in 2015.
Since then I've acquired a pair of Nikons and a set of Cannon image stabilized binoculars. The Cannons are great for car passengers wanting to view something as we zip down the highway!
