What are the best tactical rail covers?

I suppose this is a sign of the times on how deeply entrenched marketing lingo is in our psyche. How the heck are "tactical" rail covers different than "regular" rail covers other than they look funny coloured and are exorbitantly priced ? Do they give +1 accuracy and +2 stealth bonus when coupled with "tactical" socks ?

Oh, I use the Magpul ones too - cheap, light, low profile, durable and covers the sharp edges adequately. What else does one look for in these contraptions ? :p
 
Best rail covers would be no rails at all, like a JP, or Troy TRX tubular forgrip. Just add rails where you need them. Seems a little counter productive to get all these rails, and just cover them up.

Heat could be an issue I but I doubt it with 5 or even 10 rnd mags.

But I must admit, I do like the look of all four rails.

My preference is also for modular handguards that I can remove any unnecessary rails from.

Barring that I keep ergo ladders around to cover up bits of rail as necessary. Cheapish, considering what you pay for rail covers, and easy to cut to size. If I will doing high volume fire I will have gloves on and the heat doesn't seem to be an issue for me.

The OP is not trying to mod out an AR or something similar. It is a savage 110ba and you can not change the handgaurds on this rifle... Nor is heat an issue, just the sharp edges. I own a similar version of this rifle and it's big and heavy, I had to use rail covers to protect my hands from the sharp edges when picking it up.

I don't see how that changes my statement much. If you're stuck with those rails, you're stuck with those rails and will need covers.

If heat's not an issue, then using ergo ladders, as I've done, will not be an issue.

They are light and simple and relatively cheap, so they're probably not a bad choice for this application.

I've seen the ladder rails recently on some tactical sniper rifles, they seem pretty low profile

"Tactical" covers just make your gun sooo much cooler, than the regular ones:D
