What are the capabilities of .22mag. ?

What do you mean by the bottom metal on the savage? The trigger guard?

The 93FV stock has an integral trigger guard made of plastic and the mag plate is plastic as well . The tacticool from Boyds is a wooden stock identical to the TR version from Savage and it has a metal trigger guard and a thicker metal mag plate .

I ask because my savage 93 has the plastic trigger guard and I hate it, I've gone through 2 already, and when I asked savage if I could get a metal one for it, they said no.

My savage 110 had a plastic trigger guard when I got it. I ordered a metal one from Brownells for $27 I think...maybe $22. I really don't like the plastic trigger guards. Makes them seem cheap. Not bad on a .22 but on a large caliber centerfire its kinda chinsey.

Well moose can be taken with the .22mag at 968 yards. I know it's true because I read it here on CGN. I ain't makin that up.

Yes, but the .22 mag that made that shot had a "shoulder thing that goes up" on it. I don't think the original poster got that option with theirs, therefore the moose killing range would be cut roughly in half. :)

.
You will find it's kind of pricey to shoot too. Winchester ammo runs $15 to $20 per 50.

 I buy CCI at CT for 14.99/box. I have found the Winchester ammo in my .22 mag is pure ####. I can shoot consistent dime size groups at 100 yards with CCI out of my Savage 93 and at 50 yards, 5 shots will leave one hole. Winchester seems to spread all over.

I have taken 3 coyotes with my .22mag. Range was under 100 yards, shots were heart/lung/chest with Winchester supreme ammo. All 3 were DRT (Dead Right There) clean instant kills. I would have no reservations using it again at reasonable ranges. I have passed on shots over 100 yards when they have hung up and refused to come closer.

I've got 2 boxes of CCI and 3 of Winchester. I will try them both out and see what happens.

those mustve been those little baby alberta coyotes.. ontario coyotes wouldn't even bite at a .22 mag hole.. all seriousness though absolutely the .22 magnum would kill coyotes just not really a good choice.. where i find the .22 mag really shines is for shooting downer cows it'll do with one what the .22 lr will do with 20.. i wonder how many .17's it would take...

What do mean? Our coyotes are big as horses out here ;).
I just wanted to inject a little first hand experience as there are a lot of people who 'think' its no good. Thank goodness I took those coyotes before the internet said I shouldn't do it.:D

I just used my Russian combo 22mag over 410 on several gophers today. Shot a few with the 410 shot #6 (closer shots) then I took out a few with the 410 Win slugs up to 40 yards. Then I shot the long distance ones with the 22 mag (using TNT's and V+max) up to 150 yards or so. I must have lucked out since the 410 slugs seem to be regulated well with my 22 mag barrel. :)

The 22 mag is just on of those options that kills really well. I've shot many a coyote with a 22mag.

I would not be without a 22mag in the gun cabinet , and the bullet selection for the 22 mag is growing year over year.

I have one in a CZ 454 Lux,excellent rifle, could not be more pleased with it. I have a 3X9 Simmions scope and it shoots Winchester Supreme hollow points bullets in less than a 1" group at 100 yards, on the chronograph it show 2055 ft/sec..

I was out today shooting Gophers over 100 yards.
