what are the cartridges that have been forgotten but are still worth remembering?

You sir, need to find a copy of Cartridges of the World. It's about 600 pages of current, obsolete and wildcat cartridges.

Not sure what edition they're at but older ones are often pretty cheap and may even be available to download in PDF.

I have the 6th edition ('89), loads of cool stuff in there

That will only result in endless threads on endless topics...

Haha yes i can see it now, " is the 70-150 Winchester good for bear defense?"

2 rounds that were not developed for hunting that I think should be remembered are

7x43mm aka 280 Enfield

or 7.62x45mm from the Cz52

the 7.62x45mm would have been fun to wildcat and neck down to 6.5mm or 6.35mm/.257"

.32 Remington....because my grandpa hunted with one in the 1930s. M141 pump. My uncle still has it.

30/32/35 Rem were supposed to compete with the 30/30 & 32 win spec. Only the 35 Rem ended up sticking around. These cartridges are neat for nostalgia, but there is no practical reason to take one over a common as dirt 30/30.

I can think of one reason. Lots of molds in 35 cal.

How about a few 2.5" magnums. 308nm, 264 wm, 358 nm, or even 375 Chatfield Taylor.

Only the 308 nm has much of a following, and its pretty much a reloader only proposition.

The Newton cartridges. The 256 pre-dated the 270. The 30 was the first true 300 Magnum (it came before the 300 H&H). The 35 is nothing more or less than the 358 Norma without a belt. Necked up to 375, it becomes awfully similar to the 375 Ruger.

Isn't anyone going to mention the .348 Winchester?
I love my model 71s.

:) Good choice and my favorite lever action/calibre combo. My first was a standard grade that ;) I replaced not long ago with a mint deluxe model :d :d.

Another:
I have another 'jewel' in an old custom Winchester High Wall. A 219 Donaldson Wasp. And, in keeping with the 'era' theme, to match it has a 10X J.UNERTL scope.

17 Remington, a lot of people might not see any use for the 17 center fires but it’s become one of my favourite predator rounds.

I'll add my votes for the 218 Bee, 250 Savage, 348 Win, 356 Win, 358 Win and 375 Win...
Plus add the 376 Steyr and 338 Federal.

All fun to shoot, carry and hunt with!
And yes, I too either own, or have owned, shot, hunted and harvested game with all of these cartridges!

would love to try the 25-35 someday!

375 Weatherby magnum.

Like a 375 H&H but faster, of course you can shoot 375 H&H out of it if you're so inclined.
