What are the legalities behind 14 round Glock Magazines?

basically, if the floorplate comes off to clean the magazine properly, just stick a block in there , then drill a hole in the floorplate, re-assemble and stick a rivet in the floorplate- when this law came in, i had a pile of these to do- the only thing that was exempt was my 45s- what i did was load 10 or 5 as the case may be, take off the floorplate, measure to the bottom of the mag, cut it off just short,so you actually get 10.5 or 5.5- and then pop rivet- the trouble with rivetting the side is that some of the mag wells are real tight , and won't allow a rivet in there or you gouge a channel in the mag well- by going in through the bottom, you preserve the geometry of the mag

Easiest and legal as mentioned earlier. A single rivet thru the witness hole #13 works just fine. No screwing around with blocks or dowels...just a pop rivet and 'voila', done..

it's just a simple matter of restricting the follower so it can't go past the 10.5 round mark- in some cases, there's even a hole - all i did was put i a block in and rivet the baseplate shut

And so how do you take the mags apart for occasional cleaning?

I like to be able to take my mags apart for cleaning or eventual spring replacement. Last Spring I got a used gun that came with an older high cap mag that had a big dent in the front that was supposed to stop the follower from going all the way down. The follower must have worn over time because the mag would accept more than 10. I fixed this by press fitting a length of welding rod to the follower that fits down inside the mag spring. It's long enough that it bottoms against the base plate at 10.5 rounds worth of travel. So I'm legal and can still take the mag apart for cleaning. Something that you can't fully do with a travel limit rivet in the side or back of the mag that traps the follower.

i clean mine from the top- some of my 1911s and others DO not have a removable floorplate, so you get that fancy mag brush from kleen-bore and depress the follower

that's the way the LAW READS- however, the INTERPETATION is that the MAGAZINE TUBE is prohibited IF UNPLUGGED- that's why an individual can't import mag tubes only and have it plugged here- cbsa will sieze it at the border

I understand what your saying but just for further clarification what if the mag tubes are here already like the OP stated?

same deal- and i believe the nfa went to court on this a few years back, and the judge( in his infinite wisdom) ruled that b/c the cfc declared the magazine prohibited, then the magazine tube , being a unique part and essential to the manufacture of the prohibited part, was also prohibited- or something to that effect- effectively closing the loophole casued by "it's just parts" argument-
