What are the most useful M-305/M14S mods?

Niether, really. _If_ a US supplier ships it to you, in error, of course ;) , they may find themselves subject to investigation (and severe pee-pee slapping) by the US Commerce Department.

Canada Customs (insert acronym of the week here) is only interested in the legality of imports, and a rifle stock, as long as it doesn't appear to be molded out of heroin, is perfectly legal to import without any paperwork.

If it was, it would be interesting to be around during rapid fire....habit forming anyways.

No, sorry, you are thinking about those stocks molded out of crack that were imported last year.
And the stocks molded out of fiber re-enforced hash resin were pretty popular too, especially back when we had the full 20 round mags; but I believe they were a local BC product.

No stock yet

Sharkson, Have you received your Boyd's stock? I ordered a ross stock a few days ago for a 700LA... Depending on how this one works out, I may look at getting their walnut stock and handguard for my 305.

Nope, they haven't billed my credit card yet. The order was placed with a human who said sending the stock/handguard in two separate shipments was no problem.

But Fred's has billed my CC, though nothing else but an email confirm that they received my two orders (also split).

I'll post once I have received them.

BTW, at Boyds, I was dealing with the young lady who dealt with most of the "international" orders. She said they would not budge on "more than $100 orders needs paperwork", but $99 was fine.

BTW, called Boyd's today.

Pepper laminate stock and handguard was $103. They said no. I could order the stock and call back for the handguard ($17 part with $30 shipping); umm, no.

So the unfinished stock and handguard was the ticket. Under $100, they said no problem. I'll finish it myself.

Very good service, just not if it exceeds $100 USD. They said it was in stock and would be shipped by USPS this week. So yes, I will have it in 4 weeks.......... Hopefully.

FYI - Fred's order door to door 8 days

I just received my order including a USGI M-14 stock, all metal parts set and cleaning set.

THOUGH I FORGOT TO TELL THEM TO USE USPS INSTEAD OF UPS. I got dinged with UPS' criminal "handling fee".

Oh well, such is the cost of getting these parts.

That's one stock down, one to go from Boyds. That one should be in the mail since they have charged my CC.

Sharkson: At least you got something from Fred's. I'm still waiting for my order from March 2003. I hold the world record on crappy service from Fred's.

Cheers,
Barney

BUMP - any opinions?

Skullboy mentioned "Replace rear sights with USGI sights (M1 Garand sights will fit)" on page one. Where can one get one of these commercially? Anyone have an opinion on the sights at XSsights.com for the M-1A? Are these a possible replacement for the sights on the M-305, or would these only be suitable for CQB?

str8shot mentioned that Marstar has Garand rear sites listed for 69.95(??). Are these any good?

Is there a "best" option for iron sights? Brownell's also has a replacement front sight with a narrower post. Would this be helpful for longer range shooting?

Thanks.

I bought the rooster33 op rod guide. Easiest mod ever. It just drops right in and it works. No more grindy gritty feeling when you pull the charging handle back.

I bought it from GG&FB at one of the Vancouver-area gun shows.

Marstar has stainless one pc op rod guides $35., and also shock buffers. Dont know how they compare in quality to Rooster though.

I don't know why you would want Sprinfield armory m1a parts, they are not as good as Norinco parts.

I was asking for a source for a replacement rear sight on the Norinco M-305, which I have read does not like to stay put.

Have you an alternate suggestion? I'm all ears. :D
