Goodday gentlemen!

As of earlier today, I've come to find out there is a semi-auto 9MM rifle for sale here in our fine country called the "Chiappa M1-9"......

http://www.bullseyelondon.com/chiappa-m1-9-carbine-9mm-black-synthetic-stock-canada.html

I'm sure several of you have heard of it, I sure wish I had awhile ago. But it seems that this gun is stricken with issues that can be less then stellar. Feed issued being the main one, parts quality being another. However, after being slightly disappointed by this new discovery, I come to find another very similar rifle is out there called the "Ruger PC9". As it so happens, this rifle receives mostly positive rave. Its said to feed well, shoot even better and also remain quite balanced despite its large metal blowback action. And being made by Ruger, the "parts quality" issue does not apply so much as with the Italian rifle. But, alas! These rifles are no longer in production, and so my head hangs in disappointment again. So with my last grain of hope, I come to an unfamiliar land that is the "Black and Green Rifles" forum to ask its upstanding citizens a question. And that question is! "What are the odds of a person finding a Ruger PC9 in Canada for around the same price as the M1-9?"

That is all, commence the commencing!

Edit: I am aware of another rifle close to the the above, the Marlin Camp Carbine. I'm fairly sure these are not only rare, but also highly valued. And I believe they use a unique mag rather then something common, which I'm not interested in. Imagine the feeling of dropping the mag off side your canoe as your on your way to your camp! ovrec

They're out there. The PC-9 has a 16.5" barrel and is restricted. There are nonrestriced conversions out there... Here's the bad news. Even used they're far more money than the Italian guns.

Pistol caliber carbines seem to be far more popular these days .... PC-9 was discontinued in 2007, maybe it was before it's time? I bet they'd sell well today.

The Ruger PC9 is a great little rifle and a whole lot of fun to shoot. The trigger pull is god awful but you get use to it.I put a old Aimpoint red dot on mine and it is a hoot.If you can find one they will run about $850 to $1000.Buy it.

Great little guns and well balanced.
As other said they do come up once and awhile but be prepared to pay around $800.00 and above for one.

love mine. poor trigger pull true, but its not for 1000 yards. ive had an 18.5 bbl put on it. very accurate and will surprise you how well 9 mm does out of a long bbl

Darn. Well, so it is written and so it will be.

I was calling around today, asking if anyone had the M1-9 in so I could handle one. I called That Hunting and Fishing Shop near Ottawa and according to the guy on the phone, every one they sold exploded their bolt after a short time. That there turned me off of the idea right away. Not only does the gun apparently not function properly to begin with, its parts quality is so low that its dangerous! G:

It is a shame there aren't more auto loading pistol caliber rifles around. I know there's that Just Right gun, but its just looks goofy and is abit on the pricey side. I mean, the main reason for shooting smaller/inexpensive ammunition (for me, at least) if to save on the cost of shooting. Its hard to justify spending upwards of $1000 on something for that propose. And so, that is the reason I bought an SKS today. Always wanted one, never could bring myself to do it. Ah well, maybe down the road we'll have some more "carbines" on the market worth owning and Non-res'. (yeah, right......)

Thanks for the tips guys!

The Marlin Camp Carbine is a .45acp and takes 1911 magazines. Just get a Beretta CX4 Storm if you want a pistol carbine. If you want to be gangster and haul around a boat anchor of a 9mm carbine, get a Suomi M31. The Kriss Vector is pretty sweet but 45acp and expensive. I'd rather take a JR Carbine. If you can find one, the Kel Tec Sub-2000 is the best in terms of value and light weight compact. The Gen 2 is way better than the Gen 1. Judging by your post, "loosing your magazine on your way to camp", you want a handy little compact gun for bush whacking. You know what I love as a bush gun? A coach gun.

Edit:

Ah I didn't see your other post that you got an SKS. Those make great bush guns too. Get a crate of Czech surplus 7.62x39 with the charging clips and your good to go. I'd love to see a pistol carbine chambered in 7.62x25. Now that you be a pistol carbine that means serious business.

Had a PC9 that had been rebarrelled to non-restricted a while back.

Solid, hefty and reliable carbine. The build quality was old school ruger, in terms of holding real gun that felt like it could double as a club and always work for you this was it. Everytime I hold one of the new pistol carbine "toys" and "clones" that are out there nowadays I regret the day I sold her.
