Other than Browning T-bolt, what other rimfire rifles use straight-pull bolt-action ?

And how much faster can you fire the straight-pull compared to regular bolt-action ?

The russian Izmash biathalon and Sobol's have a type of straight pull toggle bolt.
Not sure how much faster they are but you don't need to move your rear hand as much from your firing position and can use a finger to pull it back and the thumb to push it forward.

The Izmash toggle bolts were sold a few years back for around $500.00 from Armarus before they closed.
You could probably find one through the E.E.

Thinking about it some more it might be easier to just check out the t-bolt.....looks like a lighter gun then the Izmash's and it's available new.
How much are the T-Bolts?

Seems to be the norm in biathlon rifles. Don't think semi's are allowed. Having to break your hold/sight picture to cycle a bolt and then rebuild it would cost valuable seconds. Other than the browning, I've seen one Walther like that. Not sure what "the rifle", for biathlon is, but I'm sure it's just a Google away.

How much do you want to spend?

You could go with any modern biathlon rifle. Anschutz 1827 costs about $3300 new. Very accurate. There are also some K31s out there in .22LR, but they are hard to come by and are somewhat of a collectors item from what I understand. I would expect firing speed is limited more by your aiming time than the cycling of the bolt with the Anschutz. The K31 takes more effort to cycle so it is hard to say if it is really much faster than a normal bolt action. Get a lever action if you want a cheap, fast cycling, non-semiauto rifle.

BTW, what are you looking to use it for?

The Ross Rifle comany mada a 22.lr straight pull single shot way back at the turn of the century, and other than the T-bolt and the russian rifles like the TOZ and IZM I can't think of anyother manufacturers. Dale in T-Bay:confused:

The original Belgian Browning T-Bolt is substantially different from the new ones. Besides the new one having a different type of magazine, they also have a plastic trigger guard, which I think is pretty off-putting, given what they sell for.

If you're lucky (and have the $$) you might find a K31 in 22lr

The new mag looks pretty good, 10 shots and flush with the stock.
Plastic trigger guard, while not my first choice, is something I can live with...
What is the substantial difference?

The magazine is a pretty substantial difference from the originals, for one. I agree that it looks like a good setup. I'm pretty sure that parts don't interchange with the older ones, either.

Overall, they look like a nice rifle, but a plastic trigger guard just isn't acceptable to me on what is supposed to be a high-end gun that costs almost $700. For that kind of money for a rimfire, I think it is reasonable to expect more attention to "little things" like that.

There is talk of someone bringing in more of the Biathalon Basics. If they are around the $500 mark ($395 stateside). Then I will pick one up. They are dead cute little guns , I shot one once and it was a very positive experience.

Well if anyone wants one I've been emailling with these guys:

And they seem optimistic of finding a Canadian distributer for them after the SHOT show.

I'm really hoping it happens, they are a brilliant little gun if a bit on the porky side.

I sure do agree with that. I really hate surprise plastic parts. The Henry lever has a bunch of crap plastic parts too - barrel band and front site. Very disappointing considering the price.

It should be in the description of the gun, quite a surprise for a few people purchasing by mail order.

Izhmash make some pretty nice toggle type biathlon rifles. Don't know if they're available in Canada.

They were, here's a picture of my sobol, yup that's a plastic trigger guard...

According to a post just above yours they may be available again..
