Just pulling out one of my long term rifles and notice this spots. I have shot it with g96 a few times and hit it hard with a micro fiber cloth but won't come out. Before I hit it hard anyone know what this is ? It's a little on the plastic stock as well. Thanks

Looks like liberal teardrop stains. You might need to take it to the lake in your canoe and give it a wash. Be careful you don't tip.

Use a solvent looks like oxidized oil/lube or the finish is coming off. BLC or some other quality firearm?

Doesn't appear to be the finish. All it's seen is g96, as it's on the plastic stock a bit too, but it sure is one there and don't want it hit it hard yet with any thing till some one with more knowledge identifies it.

try a magic eraser/water. If it was not on plastic too I would say light corrosion and 0000 steel wool and wd-40 takes that off instantly no damage. Maybe something dripped down or on storage? cabinet?

that's my thought as well, try a bit of hot water and soap on a rag, if nothing happens, some hard cleaner, Spray 9 or ?,G96, WD40, than brake cleaner, gas, or what ever is handy.
I had a little brake cleaner set the CO2 monitors in the house one time, (a little on a rag) so careful with it, It does work good to degrease for blue touch up.

I have dehumidifying boxes in my cabinet but they fill up with water quickly.

The wood on some of my rifles groq spots of white mold and the plastic butt plate of a 1970s Winchester 94 grows a cheesy white stuff.

The room is warm, but moisture seems to gather in the locker dammit.

I caught some rust developing on some guns a fews years ago, but inspect and oil periodicaly to prevent that.

MD, sounds like you need some Silica bags or a Goldenrod. Cold iron and wood plus 'warm room' = condensation. At least a 20W lite bulb at the bottom - heat rises but will be contained in locker.

It's moisture from the air condensing on the metal of the guns every time they cool even a little bit. Which is why Goldenrod and similar safe warmers work so well.

Okay. Went out and got a eraser from the dollar store and Gave it a scrub with a magic eraser and it's gone!!!! Thanks guys, still don't know what it was but I will monitor. Could be rum and coke spilled on it for all I know. Just funny how the 3x times I tried to get it with g96 and Micro fiber cloth....
