ps if you guys keep hitting my sites and I will keep posting data.

Gentlemen,

Here's the answer. In the first post "Sea Of Garands" we see the M1 Garands being checked and then greasing the rifles by hand. In this photo we see the NEW Conveyor belt showing final inspection line where the Conveyor is loaded for greasing. This new system is faster then doing it by hand.
Most of you had it correct. However, this was for new issue M1 Garands. These files are dated 1944.
Hope you had fun.

Clancy, you started this, so keep posting these great threads!!! We'll hit your sites, although I can't help you with the sponsor thing.

Been seeing Clancy for many a year... truly one of the first (if not THE first) "specialized" Garand posters, not only on websites but also usenet (for those of y'all that actually know what usenet is!) ;)

PS, I love Garands!!! Only own one, bought it hmm... about 25 years ago... but even today, it IS a fantastic battle rifle. Take a peek in "Main Battle Rifles"... what is everyone yapping about... Norinco M14's. Just what is THAT rifle designed upon?!!!

Good job, Clancy. And BTW, as one guy told me in total amazement at the Syracuse NY gun show one year ("a few" years ago), St. Remi, QC, does NOT have any sort of momument to John Garand. I bet most people living in that small town don't even know who he is. And yet, there are still many Garands listed in the phone book for Montreal and surrounding area.

freddo,
Thanks for the comeback. I am trying to keep the early history of the M1 Garand Rifle alive. I tell guys to break down their M1's and just look at the workmanship to make over 4 million of these in WW2. I have tried to get the US post office into maybe making a stamp to Honor Mr Garand and his rifle. The guys that used it kept us free I think we owe this to them all.
Thanks again
Clancy

Clancy you are right on. I have read that John Garand was offered money to sell the rights to his design, he refused and remained a poorly paid civil servant so the US federal gov't could put his rifle to good use.

The US gov't OWES him a commemorative stamp, at the very least.

And Clancy I bet most folks don't know Garand had MANY patents. The M1 was not the only thing he invented. He was very creative.

But surely, "the greatest battle implement ever devised" is his most famous invention.

Gentlemen,
freddo,
You are correct Sir. Ordnance wanted to give him 2 dollars pre rifle and Mr. Garand turned it DOWN !!! Now all I need to do is to get some of my books sold to keep my sites alive.
Thanks again
Clancy
